EU 'anti-sexism' shunts women drivers off road
Tuesday 01 March 2011 by Lizzie Cocker Printable Email
A law meant to tackle sexism ended up being used to attack women today when European judges ruled to end lower premiums for female drivers.

From December 21 2012 insurers will be banned from using gender in their risk assessments and the Association of British Insurers estimated that the change will see young women's insurance rates rise by a quarter while men will see a 10 per cent drop.

About time too! Well, they scream for equality and now they have it on their vehicle insurance:lol::lol::lol:

Three cheers for the EU!! It's about time somebody stood up to this BS. They want to be equal when it's convenient for them, and not when it inconveniences them, or cuts into their shopping budget in my experience, again just my experience.

about time. they did a study over here in canada a few years ago and found that women have become the more aggressive driver and have more cases of road rage then men these days. i use to be a truck driver and the things i use to see people do out there on the road would make your jaw drop, and about 80% of the time it was a women behind the wheel.

All I've ever noticed very generally is that men anticipate - junction clear at roundabout approach so can slow a little then continue without problem - and women don't - stop at roundabout.
This has created loads of accidents but somebody somewhere considered the female action 'safer'.
Never the twain will meet, so, we'll see!!

The statistic that women are more safer than men is only held in place by the fact that there are a hell of alot more male drivers than female.
I,personally have been driving for 26 years and never hit another vehicle or object. But I have been shunted four times by............guess???
When I seved my time on the tools I also done accident/recovery as part of the mechanic job and the stuff I have seen would make you laugh. There was a woman who had parked her car on a drive that was about 12ft above the road and roughly 30ft away from it.When I arrived at the scene in 'Big Bertha'(recovery truck) her car was upside down on top of another!!:lol:
I asked the fire and police men how it got there and the coppers replied she went to drive her car off the drive ,like she had done for years, forgot to take the steering wheel/brake lock off and drove it over the edge landing on the other car because the brake and steering was still locked!!:w00t:
If only I had a camera!
I also seen my next door neighbour filling her car up with oil.Guess where she was putting it??? DOWN THE DIP STICK ROD!!!
I didnt say anything but when I came back 40 mins later she was still there:lol::rolleyes:
I have ton's and ton's of stories but I'll be here all day.
Personally on he insurance side of things,I think the longer you have been driving with no accidents your premiums should be lower no matter what gender you are,if you smash your vehicle up ,be prepared to accept the high rates of insurance.

thats how insurance where i am works. you start at a base rate, for every year of clean driving you get a 5% discount till 40%, then you get 1% for the following 3 years till you hit 43%. if you get in an at fault accident they can move you as much as 6 catagories. ie- if you at 35% discount you can go back to 5%, or at 43% can go back to 25% discount. and if you get into an accident before you hit 30% discount you can end up the other way, each catagory over 0 is 5%. ive heard of people paying 50-60% over the base rate. and as far as the base rate goes, it all depends on the car itself, no gender or age stereotypes.

as i said, where i am there is no age or gender stereotype. our insurance is no privatized, although now thats allowed for your optional coverage. car insurance here is run by the province (insurance corperation of british columbia, or icbc), it was started back in the 70s to get away from the age and gender descrimination. its all based on your driving history, not whats between your legs.

Ah,I see.

here in america they are going to change the rates to reflect which gender is the better driver, meaning that women's insurance rates are going to go up up and up

my work has a saying.... if it weren't for women there would be no need for collision repair centers(body shops)

Universal auto coverage. I'll stay away from that. I don't need my government telling me what I need, or forcing me to get it! They are already screwing with our health care.. :nono:

the government dictates that you must have a basic insurance to drive, but thats all thats required. i know it comes with million dollar liability and a couple other thing, but its not much. from there on in its all optional. extra liability, collision, comprehensive (fire theft vandalism and glass coverage), ect is all optional. you can even do all your extras with a private company if you choose to.

what sucks about our insurance here is its based 50% off of your credit score, the other 50 is driving history and whether your male or female

How do you mean when you say your 'credit score?' as in credit rating when buying goods and so forth?
