Help!!

I am trying to disassemble the front end of my Baja and the 4 screws that hold the front plate on are "(*&%ing" welded in place. I tried heating them now I'm at a loss. I have had to file off the Allen key for the last time and have rounded them. Is the nut thing pressed into the frame or can I drill out the screws without damaging anything? I can't see any close up or item # for the nut in the frame int he manual.

Thank you,
Frustrated..&..

yes those PEM nuts are pressed in. there isnt any of them in the manual, but HPI should be able to get you some should you need them.

just take a dremel and cut off wheel and slot the screw heads.
have a number 2 or 3 big ass slotted screwdriver handy and as soon as your done putting a slot into the bolt head. use the BFS ( big fuggin screwdriver ) to take the bolt out.

once you slot it with the dremel the heat should loosen any locktight.

mine were very tight the first time i took them out, but was able to do it with the stock t bar allen wrench.

Just what I did last night, 1st one came out have to start on the last 2. Dang those things hurt when they finally spring loose.

Are you getting rid of all your purple?

yup, just started last night disassembling the Baja again.

OK, the best thing for getting those pesky stuck screws out of the Front Upper Plate is not to drill them out due to the pressed nuts they are tightened too. Do the following:

Get out your dremel and put a fine grinding disk on it. Grind a slot in the top of the screw for the largest screwdriver you own to fit as snug as you can. This worked but still took quite a bit of effort to push down hard and crank to break them free. You will have to replace the screws but much better then replacing the pressed nuts.

Okay. I was really worried about these, tried them with a regular bondhus allen wrench. They came right out.

What do I do about those nuts that are stuck? Can I leave them in and still de-anodize? I'm lazy and don't really care if some purple is underneath them. :)

The screws came right out, the nuts are still there. I'm going to just leave them and de-anodize. Heat was my next option if the screws were stuck. Thanks!
