we tried rolling it off throttle side by side the hpi & it didnt run freely as far i realise it isn't a Hpi but greesed & oiled properly i can't see why it shouldn't, ive had a free afternoon so ive dismantled the rear end & the first thing i noticed was the dog bones where literally bone dry which wasnt a good start, what is the best way of removing the boots as it proved quite difficult & i ripped one in the process? next i moved on to the gearbox to my suprise this had greese but ive cleaned all this & im going to repace with team fast eddys transmission & dogbone greese now last of all the diff i seperated this there was oil on the moving parts but isnt this supposed to be filled up to a level? looks like this Baja is going to keep me busy:D

i've just noticed i seem to be a bearing missing on the drive gear shaft also

if it isnt the bearing on the drive gear shaft try the motor out of your buddies baja that would eliminate your buggy as the problem. mine did this after a tank of gas and it turned out to be a bad motor. and my mesh looks as tight as yours.

Best way to remove boots from drive cups use lube if you want to remove boots completly from drive shafts you can work em over the drive pins being careful not to tear the boot but the easier way knock the pin out on one side of the drive shafts and slide boot off....... and diff oil level you should fill one side of the diff caseing apply the 0 ring and screw it together

this is the bearing in question, after doing abit of searching i can see this happened to a few people. Hpi turned out a bad batch missing the bearing & obviously KM copied. i have order a bearing. It was just the removing the boots from the drive cups i was having problems with it was like they was glued on i think once there greased up they should be ok.

Id be curious to try this but i don't think my mate will be willing as his Baja is relatively new. it does make me wonder if its a bad casting on the motor though as the rear mount is so tight to get in when the engine is square.

you sure the bearing aint already seated in the tranny caseing?

You should have six bearings in total

This is my actual gearbox the other pic was one I found on the web, there's definately no bearing there just a plastic ring seated in the bearing resess

wow the bearing is missing what idiots:lol: looks like only the dust cover rubber ring is in there.....

so i think if you replace the bearing you troubles should be over.......

Good find mate well done

This is why most guys tear em down and rebuild from day one :lol:

The Tr quick diff looks a nice bit of kit but unfortunately I was made redundant from my job last so I've had to put the hobby on hold for the minute, but I shall deffinately put one of those on my list for future upgrades, Hpi have been nice enough to give my mate alot of spares with his Baja so he's gave me the fluids for my diff & shocks, I think im going to wait instead of using the HD grease & get the team fast eddy grease though for the gears & dogbones looks good stuff & should last a long time.

sorry to hear about your job.......sucs when ya cant by stuff

cheers mate i have a few things in the pipeline so hopefully i wont be out of work for to long. I've just check the mixture screws & there well out from factory settings was running very lean as expected so hopefully i've not done any damage, i will stress though anybody buying a KM Baja go over everything & check.

i've just been checking out the Km manual which has exploded diagrams of the gearbox & also the 5b version 1 manual & nither of them show the 6th bearing seems to only of been added on the 5b v2 & ss but i've ordered a bearing anyway to put in there.

I don't know much about the early baja but it don't seem right not to have that bearing, the side thats missing is where it loads up when you on the power so its gotta have a bearing ;)

is there a nack to removing the larger diff gears which sit on top of the pin, i've removed the centre screw but they just seems stuck on, one of the drive cups seems slightly tighter than the other so i want to see if the bearing & viscous washer underneeth & all the orings are seated ok
