I received an offer to trade my Summit for a 5T. Here is the kicker my Summit is brushless and RTR, his 5T is a roller and he is wanting to trade mine as RTR for his roller.

The hops on the 5T are

AFTERMARKET SHOCKS SILVER(I assume 5sc schocks)
DARKSOUL HD AXLES
INTEGY SHOCK TOWER AND SUPPORTS
PROLINE TROFEO BODY A FEW SMALL CRACKS NOT BAD
Proline Trenchers(like new)

He says he has $500 in aftermarket parts. What do you think should I bite the bullet and trade my RTR for his roller or just tell him no thanks ?

Turns out he bought the 5T as a roller for $500 and is now selling it for $600 lol. The shocks appear to be just de-annozied, among with many other things that are. The tires have 90% tread on them, I wouldnt call them like new.

I could be off base here, but make sure that's a genuine HPI and not a Rovan/KM clone. I'm not going to go trolling here, but de-anodization is sometimes a pointer towards a clone. The orange looks a little lighter in the pictures than HPI's SS tint. If it's real, I'd consider it, although the Summit is a really nice truck. I wouldn't trade one for a clone though.

That and you'd be looking at a new body as well. The Trofeo I had didn't hold up all that well after its first roll.

Well I have only used the Summit 4-5 times in my living room, it was an impulse buy. I still haven't made up my mind on it yet. Asking RTR for his roller is kind of a buzz kill and like Elk stated it might be a clone too.

On second inspection, this thing has 5B V1 purple hubs, steering rack, and SS/5T rear end. HPI's stock anodizing for the chassis is gunmetal on the SS and V2, purple for the V1, not black. At the very least its a mish-mash of parts.

I'd check into the rear differential and verify it to be an SS alloy unit since the 5B's stock unit grenades under more than a CY 23. I'd also make sure all linkages, at least an SS pipe, and the steering servo and battery are included in the deal. Make sure the shocks are the fatter VVC's in good condition with the larger shafts.

my opinion is if its a genuine hpi 5t i would do a trade, i think you would have more enjoyment with the 5t and you can pick up a 26s motor dirt cheap ...

Do not know much about a Summit but guessing it is 1/10 or 1/8 scale. Large scale cost much more then the smaller scales. They even hold there value better. Hard to say what to do but I personally would rather have a large scale gas over any smaller scale.

don't take this the wrong way but.. no offence its like a little toy compared to the HPI Baja 5t!
you should 100% trade you RTR ?? no need to think just trade before you lose this great deal..

How would the 5T be with a 23cc motor? I just happen to have one sitting on my desk lol. I am thinking about emailing the guy and saying I will do it.

It will work for a start. Down the road you can put a kit in it to increase displacement or get another engine. A good tuned pipe makes a BIG difference on any size engine.

Yea my 5b has an ESP 29cc head on it. I just never drove it with the stock motor, when I bought the 5b the first thing I did was put the head kit on. Then my wife claimed the 5B lol.

I emailed the guy and told him that I am interested in it.I also asked him if it came with a receiver battery, hopefully it does then I would then just toss my 23cc motor into and a receiver and run it.
