I just bought this truck in February and have done a few things to make it faster and more dependable. The very first thing was new bearings and tightening all screws and thread locking those that that were screwed into metal. Then replacing all bearings. So far I have had no problems and I am impressed with it. The Dom pipe, 8k clutch and 990 carb are the best upgrade that can be done to these trucks.20170407_235201.jpg 20170407_234855.jpg 20170407_173758.jpg 20170330_233936.jpg 20170320_202108.jpg 20170401_002504.jpg

Looking nice KG.

One thing, I'd be careful using a K&N with just a piece of netting over it.
I use a K&N style, but with a foam pre-filter, and an Outerwears over it.

There have been many posts on here and other forums over the last few years where fine particulate let through have stuff up the lining of the cylinder bore.

Thanks for the advice. I did not know that and will look for a foam outerwear to go over it. Do you happen to know where I could get one?

I checked and DDM has them. I have one ordered and on the way. Thanks again!

What are you talking about you are impressed with it?

It has not seen a spec of dirt yet! Pictures speak for themselves, unless you are running it over carpet...
They do look nice, but have heard/read/ and seen wayyyy to many premature failures of the dog bones, drivetrain, etc.

From what I have picked up from the net, the way to go is to install lower profile tires and wheels, and then its a beast and no more broken dog bones.

And that specific model, imo, has gone stale, no aftermarket support.

No need to deny it, and not bashing on this thread, but lets be realistic, the truck has its obvious flaws, more than the usual RTR problems.

That yours run, good for you, but I did my homework, and if there was a consistency between the many reviews, and concerns from people who own this specific truck, is the broken dog bones, and drive train failure.

This truck has seen plenty of dirt and bashing. Every time I am done I use a blend of degreaser and WD40 to keep it looking like new. I guess I am OCD like that. Sure there are problems with the truck out of the box but I did my research on all of this before buying and rectified all of it once I received it. New bearings, belt drive, Thread Locker, Carb, Pipe and Dog Bone Boot covers. I run it hard on a regular and no problems yet. If I break an dog bone I will just put another one in it and keep gettin it. Most of the guys I have read that have problems with these trucks can't pour piss out of a boot much less take a cheaper option like the MT and make it awesome. If it doesn't jump out of the box and run flawlessly they are lost. HPI has its share of problems too I have heard but just not nearly as many.

This is my FG MT last week after a little romp in the local park - 2WD on damp grass, so was quite 'fun'!!

I have watched a couple videos of the FG running and I have to say it looked like they were hanging in there with the Bahas. I haven't tried the wet grass yet I bet it is fun.

I do agree with you on the build quality from the box on first run. I would tell anyone looking to get into 1/5th scale that did not want to put a lot of effort in a new truck to stay away from the Redcat MT but if they were willing to go through the truck completely and fix the obvious problems before running it then it in my opinion would be worth it. A lot of times what happens is the truck is bought and ran hard without any upgrades or preventative maintenance and then folks wonder why it broke.

To be honest, many's the time I wish I'd had the 4WD conversion - instant donuts, when not required!
I need to spend time setting it up, the brakes, etc., and much of this might be one or other brakes binding slightly.

And this is so very true, the resale value is a major loss unless is a noob blind sighted by the usual first impression of omg what a big truck bla bla...

RCUniverse has a like 25 page thread and the feedback is all over, almost had a headache from reading it, and that was just one of the many...

Good for you, its all and nice, but on 5th scale they still long ways to go in quality control, imo. KM and Rovan may have issues, but those are clones, and HPI Baja and Losi its minor things out of the box.

Cheers!

Don't listen to any of them lol. The drive train is not the issue. Its the fact the factory has pins in the dog bones fall out. Cause it all needs loctite on it. Each end has a 3mm set screw in it to hold pin in place. One falls out whole thing goes to hell fast as it wips around hits everything till it bends the shaft and kills few gears lol i myself have even had it happen one time on my first new redcat mt.

Second belt drive you have is like 1 to 1 and blows.... you will kill everything in the center drive line in 5 full tanks. And your plast diff holds will melt lol

Pipe was smart move i guess that whole 1mph faster it goes now for 200$ lol bling but science says its almost identical to stock output power. I know that one will piss many off. But fact is 2 stroke needs back pressure to get better gas useage and tad more power is profuced cause of it. Stock one does pretty much same thing just foes not sound as loud. But have to give the makers of those pipes they did the math and its pretty good for a stock 32cc motor chamber size get most out of the motor. 26cc actually gets hurt by it though.

What would i know though only have 7 redcat 1/5 scale rcs lol still love my new losi over them all :)

Point of these photos. I spent 0$ lol no issues truck v2 from like 3 years ago. But fact i own machine shop and buy sell custom rc parts helps, these are my toys and drift cars are $$ lol. But really there is nothing all pimped out about this truck. 3 years beat to hell and fun as hell. Well over 200 full tanks gas in it. Christ even used 15 pound sledge one point bend frame back after a damn tree jumped infront of it. So i cant see why people bash redcats. There like any rc truck or car. Maybe not all blinged out or well assembled at the factory like losi or traxxas. But if you have some time and take the time to do it all correct. You will have a good running truck.

Ps that is what happens to redcat rampage anything they makes when dog bone pin walks out. End up with shaft flying around till kills everything around it lol. As i mentioned in first post! Nice bling build you have to bad has to sit on a shelf after all thst money!

Am glad for you. I will stick w 1/10th scale Redcat and thats as far as I will go. Currently am hooked w 1/8th brushless, and its been lots of fun.

Let Killgore clock some good miles. Its his thread, my bad for thread jacking.

I respect your opinion, and for the same reason I post mine. Maybe thats what the DBXL needs as well, locktite.

I have 3 gas redcat rapage mts one a pro 2 normal. One rampage ext one rsmpage xb. One rampage dune runner one rampage mt with brushless motor in it 18s lipo setup and yet only broke 3 dog bones cause of hitting stuff and one grub screw walked out of my first mt i owned v2. So lol your internet has failed you! Must be alot of people cant read page 2 of booklet comes with every redcat rampage! Ones says loctite everything cause we didn't MADE IN CHINA, lol

Yeah, must be that page 2, threadlocker and done!

No need to worry about the internet, your postings will sky rocket Redcat sales, LOL!

Well this has been interesting. Before I bought the truck and had a blast tinkering on it and getting the kinks out of it I had already read a thousand threads covering everything that you two have said by lots of different people. So it goes without saying that you @crankestein wasted your time jumping on a new guy to the forums thread bashing his choice of RC because it makes you feel better or because you are a Redcat hater. I could see if you were actually telling me some helpful info but we both know why you did it. I run the he'll out of my truck but it looks good doing it. @Rich_Morgenstein just because someone posts a picture of a clean truck with some chrome on it doesn't mean it's a shelf queen. Some of us like to clean them up well when done for the day and for good reason. If you want to keep yours looking rough and muddy that's your business. Thanks for the welcome and insight fellas.

@Rich_Morgenstein the pipe did wonders for takeoff and top end. Before the pipe the 1:1 belt drive was junk for low end torque. After the pipe it will spin on dry concrete and has all kinds of take off power. It also sounds smooth on wound out top end unlike the stock pipe so we will agree to disagree. The pipe was not bought to increase the mph anyway. Only an idiot would expect it toI have also ran around 11 full tanks through it with not the first issue. I am on another well known forum and I think you are the first one that has said the 1:1 is bad for the drive train. Wow I hope you two haven't gave much advice on this forum because you have done it a great disservice.
