Hello, everyone, this is my first post. I am a bit experienced as a 1/8 Nitro XL runner. I just purchased the Rovan 1/5 gas LT 450 . I had no problems the first day with about a 20 min break in time. 1/25 gas / oil .. The second day, i seam to not be able to get the engine to run, or at least it starts, then dies, immediately , either a few seconds of idle or when i give it throttle it stays alive a bit longer, but when i let off the throttle , it dies. Now the only way to keep it alive is half to full throttle then it dies immediately. Keep in mind i have less than 15 min on this engine total, haha... Normally i would be adjusting the low speed needle valves, but it said do not adjust in the break in time. Then i thought to check the spark plug, i cleaned it, it was full of oil really, i cleaned it, repaced it, it ran a little better, but only for the next 3 minutes, then the same thing. It starts easy but dies immediately. The fuel is primed and the settings are unchanged from the factory. I appreciate all advice as a newbie to this style of truck. Thank you. !

yes, thanks, either that or i was thinking my fuel mix was off and too much oil.
it seams hard to keep a specific oil mix with what i have for mixing, seams the RC are much more finicky than the standard chainshaw motors.

I would advice you to tune the carb regardless of what the clone instructions tell you to do ....

you CANT break in a engine that ain’t running properly ....
Everyone has there way and opinion on how to break in a engine.....

This is mine
Tune it till you hear it purring without any help....
then drive it around for a full tank nothing crazy and no more then 2-3 seconds at WOT ....
Let it cool down, inspect everything is tight & right ... fuel up and go have fun!

Usually ones you get your carb settings proper, you will never have to touch them again....

*Also really important you will want to check your throttle linkage and end points are set properly before you go crazy playing with the carb settings....

And while you’re at it. Please remember to install a kill switch on the engine!!!

One more thing
Welcome to the forum ???

Mmmm. So even if i ran it only 20 min, change the plug ? I cleaned it, does that matter ? Thanks
Its funny how it ran perfectly the 1st day, 20 min of idle to low speed, then let it sit about a day, then had the problems immediately, and i didnt touch or change a thing,

The settings on the manual set they are set to factory, so i didnt change them, but i will run it shortly and see where the settings are. I was just trusting the manual said don't change the settings from the factory settings until after breakin, but obviously from everyones advice i will neeed to change them. Just curious if i neeed a new plug already, i might try to clean it again as well, thanks.

Did the manual say how many turns the HSN and LSN should be? Did you check your carb and verify they are correct? Could've been shipped incorrect from the factory

Everyone was right, haha . The setting of the LSN was not factory it was out too far, so it was rich as a pig, so I did as suggested and re set the needle to factory. I removed the spark plug and was going to replace it, but then did the torch technique and burned off a lot of carbon, it was full of it. Decided to try it again as i had a new one purchased and ready anyway, and it started right up. Sounded great. ! After a bit i leaned the LSN a bit, and it idled perfectly. Then i did as suggested and ran it about 3/4 tank, broke it in at different speeds, it ran great, leaned the LSN a bit more, and that was it. Being new to the car and size, i was probably too hesitant to touch it really until i asked you guys ! And my first day i basically just idled it, so looking back i was idling a pig rich car, no wonder it fouled the next day, makes sense now. Today i did the post break in inspection and cleaning, so its all good thanks for the help. !
