It appears that they fixed some of the issues with the DBXL before cloning it to make this though: Thicker chassis, aluminum hubs, bigger engine, lipo rx batt... Etc. Idk why they would do an MTXL with a bunch of upgrades and higher price point instead of just a 5ive-MT, but I don't think it's going to be a bad truck.

The 5ive-T has proven itself to be a fantastic truck, but JUST on the limits of standard, commercially available power, unless you go to some of the horrendously expensive (relative) tuned motors, or turn it into a milk float.

Imagine how big, heavy and expensive a 5ive-T-based MT would be?
The (more-scale-looking) body alone would be into the stratosphere!!

Wheels would be another thing ... so limited and specialised they'd probably price themselves out of the market.

I might be wrong.

Well it's probly based on the dbxl because of the length, the dbxl is around 5 or 6 inches shorter then the 5ive. I like my dbxl, after $1500 in upgrades it's almost where I want it to be. Honestly I should have waited and bought a 5ive t, much better suspension out of the box and aftermarket parts are cheaper and easier to find.

Snap!

Lol don't get me wrong I love the dbxl but, there are things that should have been done better. The thing is a mad basher and tough as hell, as long as the drive pins don't fall out or the servos take a poop. Also the steering and hubs have an excessive amount of slop and play. Also the shocks could have been much better with very little changes by the designers like different pistons, actual shock oil and not diff fluid and also a bit stiffer spring. I got mine working fairly well with 20% over springs, 5k in the front and 7k rear. Also it should have came with the 5ives 26cc. A pipe like the bartolone does an amazing job at waking up the 23cc stock motor and the lighter weight of the db helps in that area but then you run out of gear fairly quick and if you change gearing you run out of torque. Also the chassis on the db is poop and one of the first things i changed.

-but other than that, it's great! I think upon further review, it should be called Losi DBXLDE (Desert buggy x-tra large dog's egg)....so in hindsight, only the body and cage was really good in stock form.

Lol well if you leave it stock and use a couple stock reciever batteries (they don't even last 1 tank), then it's pretty damn tough to break. Other then modifying the shocks so they actually work right and lock tite all the shaft pin grub screws, it will hold up. But if you do like I did and put a ported g320 in it a chassis is a must. Woth the stock chassis you can feel it flex just picking the car up by the shock towers. This is what a $2000 dbxl looks like and that's not including the radio I bought hahaha.

Well I'm shortly gonna find out how close the DBXL and its Big Brother from another mother are.
I ordered the Vertigo Clutch bell and 21T Pinion gear along with a DBXL 61T Spur gear. The Original MTXL gears are 15T/67T

But, inorder for the Vertigo Clutch Bell to fit you have to use the 21T Pinion. The Vertigo Clutch is a huge step up from the stock Losi crap. Has a nice Hex attachment point. I'll post pictures when I get it.

I'm no expert on gearing, what changes can I expect good or bad from the original MTXL ----> higher 21T pinion and lower 61T spur gears??

That is quite an increase in gearing, so should add quite a bit to top end, but as for off the line speed be interested to hear!

67/15 = 4.46
61/21 = 2.9

Don't know enough about the MTXL, but that seems quite a fair jump.... As normally changes to final drive is in 0.2 kind of jumps. Look forward to others comments/advice there.

Well if all goes well should be operational in a day or two. Waited for all the parts and screws, ect. to come in. Upgraded many things, put on Outerwears. Can't wait to get it going. Look for a YouTube video post soon!

Finally got the Losi MTXL out to stretch it out a little. Beautiful day, really ran it hard. The pull start partially melted to the Bartolone pipe. Haha. Great top end speed with the DBXL spur gear. Kinda slow ramping up. But once it's up to speed. Wow!! Super fun.

You need to sort those gears out along the way though. Maybe its a personal pref kind of thing but I really like the standard MTXL's aggressive acceleration. Its almost like a pouncing beast, especially after I treated it to a bartolone pipe. You traded away an awful lot of pounce for a higher top speed. I have seen it make wheelspin on dry asphalt.
