Ok so I just got my rovan baja and going through the tuning I set the high needle to 1 1/2 and low needle to 1 1/4 out and if I'm not mistaken these are supposed to be on the rich side correct? Or does it sometimes need to go richer? It's a 997 walbro carb.

In order to get the car to not bog down when I hit the throttle I have to richen the low needle from the stock settings. Does this happen sometimes or is there something wrong with my car?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums;

Assuming all other factors are met of fresh fuel, proper mixture, clutch is not scraping, ignition is not dragging against flywheel, no air leaks...

If it bogs down when attempting wide open throttle, its lean, needs more fuel in the H needle.

Usually those are the turns for the carb, but sometimes on newer engines (as long as their is no air leaks), it needs a little more fuel.

Remove the spark plug, if its wet, then is overly rich in the Low needle. If its rich, spark plug all covered in fuel, flip it over, give it a few cranks to remove the excess fuel. Put back the plug, close the low end needle (not super tight), just hand easy tight, and crank it a few times. It should at least start with the remaining fuel.

The needle movements are minute, split up the circle like in 1/16th of a turn, and thats how I adjust them, one number at a time. If you jump a few numbers the mix goes off by a lot.

Just in case, remember a kill switch before anything else.

Wow thanks for all the tips! I checked all that stuff and got rid of any excess fuel in the piston and the car has been running great. Also found out that after break in I needed a new spark plug which was an easy cheap fix. Definitely will only adjust 1/16 at a time on the needles. How long should I run the car in between checking the spark plug in order to get a proper reading of how it's running?

I don't have a kill switch just yet for it which do you recommend?
