I see this question asked several times, but nobody seems to be able to answer it. Yes, you can run 5B fronts all around the DBXL, but what about running the 5B rear's on all four corners of the DBXL? Are there any issues? I built a brushless DBXL from scratch. It's not quite done yet. I have the Desperado 5B rear rims and Proline Bow tie tires. Swapping them on all four corners, I see there is a very slight contact in the front with the turnbuckle which can be easily remedied. I don't have the cage or body yet, but in terms of chassis and suspension, it seems to clear everything fine. So before I take the plunge and buy another set of 5B rear's, I want to be absolutely sure they fit. They aren't cheap! That's $200 in tires/rims!

Also, I've looked at 5B tire inserts. They have molded rears which are medium soft. The fronts are just strip pieces of foam designated as "soft". I'm sure it's like this because the Baja's are RWD. But for our DBXL 4wd buggies I'm not sure just a strip of foam will be good enough for the front. Another reason why I don't want to run the front 5B tires and rather have the rear 5B tires all around with the harder molded foam.

Opinions/advice much appreciated. I opted not to buy the stock losi wheels/tires because of the odd size (no upgradability and soft tire odd tread pattern.

thought I'd throw the specs out there for anyone looking to do this..

Losi DBXL stock tires - 198mm height / 59mm width
Proline Bowties for Baja B Rear - 174mm height / 81mm width
HPI Baja B rear molded foam insert - 170mm height / 80mm width

Basically with the Baja B rears you're gaining 20mm width but losing almost 25mm height over the stock tires which kind of sucks. The extra ground clearance from the tires would be nice although that's really only 12.5mm extra ground clearance.

I'm dead set on running the Baja rears front and rear on my DBXL. I'm either going to grind down the front turnbuckle or run an extended wheel bolt. Will post pics once it's done.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I ordered the Desperado rear wheels and Trencher tires for my XL s well as the Desperado fronts. I was going to run all rears but figured there would be rubbing issues up front. Wheel extenders my be the answer for both our applications. BTW, Proline Desperado rears that I ordered are 190mm x 70mm. The foams I ordered were the standard HPI front and rears fir the 5T.

Did you mean the Trencher tires are 190x70? The 1/5 scale wheels are usually quite universal with regards to width and height. I just checked it out. The trenchers are 194mm which means they are almost the same height as the stock DBXL tires. Had I known these were larger, probably would have purchased these instead of the bowties. While I can grind down the turnbuckle to fit the 174x81mm tire, I would be interested to know if a 194x80 trencher would actually rub anything else up front (possibly the body/chassis)? Would love to see that setup once your done, post pics!

Sorry about that. The foams for the rear are 190 x 70 and the front foams are 190 x 60. I picked the 5T rears and fronts because they will look a bit more realistic.

Just a quick update with pics. I got the Proline Desperado baja rears mounted all around with Proline Bowties. I had to use wheel spacers. Using the DGI 1" wheel spacers all around. Threw on a FID spare tire mount. I had to make some custom spacers to get the bigger rear tire to fit the spare tire mount. I didn't want to waste money on a set of proline's for a spare, so I bought XMax racing tires from ebay which are clones. They're actually pretty good. I've tested a set on my baja. The rubber is softer than the prolines, but off road they're just as good. You shouldn't be using them on road, but they definitely wear faster than the prolines.
