Just noticed after a run the drive train didn’t seem to be rolling smoothly as it normally does.. so I pulled the spur gear cover off to find the damping bushings were chewed to shreds and had the spur gear in a bind... does this happen from time to time or is there a general reason other than wear and tear?

Looks like a possible combo of problems.
1st the dampners appear to be Rovan or King Motor, and they don't last like the HPI models do. HPI will be black in color.
2nd It appears that maybe you were missing the spacer behind the spur gear, and the damage does not go all the way to the bottom of the holes that the spur gear carrier fit in.

I would look for the spacer, and replace the dampners, and be sure the carrier fits snug against the C-Clip.

Alright.. thanks! I’ll definitely be more cautious when reinstalling the new ones... and yes these bushings came factory with my rovan clone Baja 5b... the only thing I had changed was I geared it up one tooth... 18-56 hostile gears.. also noticed my E-clip had popped off when I found the damage... the spacer behind the spur gear however was in place... thanks again for the insite

The clip coming off was the main reason for this failure.
New clip, new dampners, and Have lots of Fun !!
