I am fixing to fab up a front skid plate for my KM Baja!....

I got this huge piece of aluminum plating ,I had already made a top brace out of it ,it is currently on
the Baja now!

make it extend further down the chassis tho as that is the weakest point on the baja and just that skid plate even out of aluminum wont do anything. make it a little bit more like the scorpion one

thats the ffrc one but same thing. see how far it extends towards the back of the car? that is were the strength comes from .

Ah ,now I see how that mounts ,when I first seen the part ,it didn't look like it goes there ,I guess that I was ass backwards!....LOL
Thank for showing ,that way ,gives better support ,I can make that then!....(y)(y)

I cleaned it up a little to see what needs to come off & get it to the right shape ,I cut it a little bigger ,the one
side had thick pool paint on it as this aluminum is probably more than 40 years old ,it came from Edwards air
force base ,it is what our towns swimming pool is constructed from ,the aluminum is aircraft aluminum!

Upon looking at what I have cut out ,an feeling the weight ,an sense I got a thicker top plate ,I am actually beginning
to wonder if I really need this to be this size ,I am thinking on down sizing it to only a few inches ,enough to cover
a portion on where the bend starts at the nose & main part of the chassy ,at that point ,I can still use the plastic peice
an stiffen that up ,the plastic piece can be trimmed where it hooks in the chassy!

Does anybody think that I should trim it down?

No I don't think you should shorten it.

I am drilling the first set of holes right now on to the main thick part of the chassy ,once that I get those screws in ,
then that would help in-line with plate ,then that would allow me to hammer in the plates together ,because there
is a little air between them ,once that ,then I will drill out the other 4 holes ,get those screws in ,that would hold plate
in place to shape an fine tune the contour of the plate at the top!...
I got to take it back off ,an trim those blue lines off ,but it is coming along!
An those screws are only temporary until I find some counter sink ones!....

Getting close ,I got most of the trash off an shaped ,try to get some of those pits out ,but I may also put
my known signature on there as well ,but need to figure out an make sure that I don't compromise the
strength ,it is still stiff as hell!

It's taking shape nicely ?

One side the angle is a little off ,I will straighten that up some more when I drill the rest of the hole tomorrow ,
It was about a 104 deg. today ,so I had to come in an cool off every now & then ,but should be pretty much
done tomorrow!
I am trying to rack my brain about how I can make rear uprights ,but I cant find no 1/2 '' material laying in
my yard ,I even thought about hacking one of my aluminum lawn mower bodies up ,but I don't see no 1/2''
thick stuff on there ,I looked!....:banghead:
