I have been enjoying my signature 34. But I bought another new 5ive t. Pondering a power plant for this one. I want something crazy. Any thoughts on a 40,46,50 or 55? I don’t think I want to go any larger than that.

A few things that are important.
I don’t want to cut the cage or have interference issues.
I love the scream of a small block but I’m curious about the torque of a bb.
As for gearing I know I’m going to have to gear down the 62 tooth. Detroit sells everything I will need.
Any one experience what these power plants all being free air do on a hot day?

I know this is for a 5ive t but my buddy has a 46gt in a Baja 5t and it’s impossible to drive. The 46 is supposed to be the best motor in the world and most common seller I want to build a 4wd rig myself and have been looking into the 46gt. It’s a lot of power. Good luck with whatever you decide.

46gt in a baja shouldn't be impossible to drive, gear it up and it will help a lot.

To answer the OP, any of those are great engines in a losi. Your best bet is to watch YouTube videos of each and go from their. If it was me, I'd go with a 50gt or a 55. A 50gt is a torque monster and has good low end power, the 55 Supreme is a rpm engine and screams mid- top. Depending what engine you go with, I'd go with a 27/50 gearing and go from their.

Due to pricing is makes sense to get the 50 over the 40 or 46, it's only a couple of hundred bucks more.
The price jumps when you get into the Supreme range
If you have the cash, then go with the 55 for it's top end, and it's more friendly on the drivetrain compared to the 50

Also since you've got a 5iveT 2.0, then gearing is limited. For the 55cc for example, you would be running something like 28/56 (must be 84 teeth total tooth count) for a v1 5iveT you would be running something like 27/50. This is due to the clearance problems with the 5iveT centre diff, and the fuel tank

Most opt for the Taylor 5iveT chassis so you can run it as the v1 driveline. You can also run the full Phatdad driveshaft set then

I was in your shoes and I hadn’t had any idea on what to do. Spent time on YouTube watching videos trying to decide. I wanted to try a 55 but went with the 46 instead for my 5ive T. Love it. Lots of rpms running 28/56. I love it it really screams. I had to cut the cage on mine running the Taylor billet intake and MOD triple stage filter. Never have any problems during the hotter months.

This is partially incorrect, you can run v1 gearing as well with a little clearancing on the diff mount/ clutch housing. I am running a 2.0 with the same gearing. Didn't Take much to make work

Aaahh ok that's good to know
How would the 55 be easier on the drivetrain? Or an I mis understanding?
Yeah the 55 is a short stroke high rpm engine, running the same bottom end as the 40gt
The 50gt is a long stroke engine, designed mainly for torque

Don't be fooled though, the 55s is a monster also, and very well suited to the 5iveT
