Torn between 3 engines.... seeking advice

Keep in mind though. If the port has the shape or the size as it came stock that is perfect to work as is. You may ruin a perfectly good running setup. Other ports may need work on but to just go hogging something out or changing the shape because you think it needs to be touched can ruin a...

    Broken crankshaft

It does happen sometimes. Cy has done it, Zenoah have done it and some aftermarket cranks have done it. But normally not a common thing.

    new pipe - rusty!?

Customers of ours who run boats in salt water use silicone spray. Had a pipe sent back in for me to change and it looked like new still. He told me after he is done running he makes sure it is dry and than wipes it down with silicone spray. Does this every time out.

Successfully solved the operation of Rovan 45cc motor.

Watch for detonation. You just went one step hotter on the heat range going to a 6. NGK numbers go higher plug gets colder. Others like Champion go higher number they get hotter.

    Anyone try this?

Gas helicopter guys use a charging setup on their stuff. We run 5 servos total and they keep up with that. They like the idea of just bringing gas can and radio and go fly and not have to deal with a charger too.

Noob Mistake - Pretty sure I seized engine!

Cold weather means leaner engine because of more oxygen in the air. You would want to richen it. That why engines run better in cool/colder weather. Hotter air with less oxygen you go leaner. Same as going to different altitudes will effect it also. Higher up less oxygen. Lower in elevation...

Removing Fly Wheel (rounded hex bolt!?)

We worked on tons of the harley stuff doing machine work on them and we know about them well. But keep in mind it has more surface area with the bigger longer pins in it and are tapered. Zen style cranks as they kept moving the pin outward they did not make the wheel bigger like CY did to keep a...

Removing Fly Wheel (rounded hex bolt!?)

Bad idea. Problem is you put all twisting motion through the crank pin area which is small and sometimes not much press fit on them. Which means twisting or possibility of twisting crank. You want to do any loosening or tightening on the end you are working on of the crank.

Ah... OK.. was going to say if all it was is transferred aluminum on it. There is a trick to getting it off cleanly but when I looked at original pics i did see scaring on it so figured maybe was no good.

Not going too hold up either if you keep mixing it light on oil. Looks like there is some grooves in it? Are they deep or feel bad or is it just the aluminum that is stuck. Did you take the aluminum off last time you seized it?

Max rpm do not know 100% on, but we have customers at times running 22,000 to 22,500 rpm. Normal range for us is usually 18,500 up to 20, 000 rpm constant. Keep in mind though this is using the two piece Zenoah ignition setup. Cars with one piece I can not give answer on it. Sorry.

The longer fuel inlet needle works against high rpm application's. The more mass will not go up and down to meter fuel but hang there. Seen it on dyno first hand with face above diaphragm cover with hole cut in it. Hi rpm it buldges up and sits there stuck wide open. Pouring raw fuel into carb...

Rep732 typing too fast earlier and not thinking enough. 257 has longer fuel inlet needle which is more mass. Compared too 929 and 990. Pretty much all current carbs have short inlet needle in them. They finally listened I guess when we kept telling them what the issue was.

That was an issue for us too when we did it on our newer engines. The Walbro 488 that was supposed to be for alky didn't work for us and from what i hear didn't work well for others.. We spend pretty much all our time at 18,500 rpm plus and finding something to work up there is an issue. We gave...

Also keep in mind if you didn't know. You will need to run gas through it as was recommended earlier. Engine will rust up if not. If you didn't know this already? If you run just as hard as you do gas? You will have roughly 1/2 the run time before refilling. Alky is roughly 2 times the fuel burn...

Except to maybe loose weight from ignition system. Not really. That engine was heavy so I did what I could to get it lighter. I had some notes i found. Go heavy on oil. If not, possible failures maybe happen to upper and lower rod bearings. This will also depend how hard and long you run it, but...

FAI model glow fuel. It's not a PUM engine. That why I said it was one of our 35cc engines. It was the early ones we made designed for marine use only. What I did was cut the cooling jacket wall off of it and make a nitro style head button for it with fins. The heads we had made two versions...
