Hi guys,

ok so i tried to fit an alloy diff housing to my DBXL 2.0, i have the FID bracket / Housing & today i bought the diff case, i thought it was just a simple task of swapping the internal gears etc from stock case to the FID one.

I thought all was going well but when i test it by hand by turning the gears, they are not binding smoothly as they should be they are very rough/clunky. So i took it apart, checked everything but all seems in order, so i tried an ATOP case that i also have, same problem!?

are the diff cases for the 1.0 & 2.0 different some how?

also i looked up the diff rebuild kit from losi and the kit comes with small shims for each of the 4 gears inside the case, my stock 2.0 does diff does not have these shims 4 smaller, it only has the 2 larger shims that go over the cup shaft?

I also noticed that the small o-ring on the spur side that sits in the groove does not sit in the FID case 100% flush, even if i use the stock o-ring from stock case, would this be an issue? the shim goes over it & i can pop the pin in place etc but the shim does not sit 100% flat on surface!? but again i tried it also without the shim completely and it was still the same?

The case also comes with gaskets for each side, i tried it with & without the gaskets incase that was causing an issue, but still the same.

Anyway as it is, ive now put the stock diff case back together until i find some answers or solution!

Anyone here had success fitting an alloy diff case, if so do you remember exactly the way you did it? did you have to use small shims on each of the small gears?

This is the case i currently have and also an ATOP one which is also exactly the same.

At the moment im thinking that the case isn't 100% the same dimensions as the 1.0 which these cases are designed for im guessing, so the gears are not 100% aligned inside.

Cheers!

As far as I know the cases were the same. The dbxle cases were a direct swap iirc.
Hmm thats a strange one then, im going to try one of the Taylor RC ones as as that comes with shims for the spider gears, so will see, but its got to be something to do with the FID amd ATOP cases i have because when i put the stock diff back together exactly same way i had it setup in the FID and ATOP cases, the stock diff is smooth as silk!

check the squares are free from burrs mate,
if they have any burrs on em just lap em off on some wet n dry on a flat surface,
all the dbxl cases should be the same, use the shims on the small gears then try without em, it is better to use those small shims though,
the o ring is held in place and does stand proud a little untill you fit the large shim and pin etc, thats normal,
i'm going off experience of the fid dragon hammer which uses a lot of the same parts diff wise of the dbxl (y),
i would say the problem is with the diff squares when all said and done though,

Hi buddy, i don't have the small shims as the 2.0 stock diffs didnt have any and the fid and atop diffs didnt come with any either, the small spider gears just sit ontop of the squares etc, lile i say, it works great in the stock pladtic diff, very smooth etc, but in the alloy one its a no go!?

You should have just got the dbxle diffs and been done with it. There's a point where cheapening out doesn't work. Fid normally makes decent stuff, and I had a lot of their stuff on my dbxl, but it's best to stay with known name brands, especially when the oem already offers a very good upgrade to the shite plastic diff.
Return the atop and fid stuff and get the dbxle or Taylor rc diff.

i think i mis read the original post mate,
if you send the fid and atop stuff back like sean said above, then come back and let us all know how ya got on with losi or taylor,
if you persevere with the fid or atop then post up a few pics so we can see exactley what ya have etc (y)

1.0 and 2.0 diff housing are slightly different
