Hi,i have soemone offering me a km baja for $200 shipped, and has been ran for about 5 mins then crashed(need about $100 in repairs). It comes without electronics and engine.I was planning to put a cy 26cc with some decent electronics. And have about $500 spare in hop ups,and then still a couple hundred for repairs later on.In australia with elecytronics and some prefilters i am looking at $1500 US.

So i have heard people saying don't get it etc,but no really first hand experience.Anyone with any advice stories etc please post up since im still unsure.
or please post up a link to a thread that is about the baja clone.(i have looked but no real first hand experience stories).
Thanks since it is going to take me another 3 months to save up for an ss,since from now on i need $1000 for my real car...

mate have a scan around there a quite a few threads... actually they may have been deleted as clone threads have a tendency to stir up quite a discussion - I have been guilty of "expressing my opinion" in said threads

All I will say is this - a workmate has one, I have helped him fix it numerous times and lent him heaps of parts, it has cost him an arm and a leg since he has had it and in the long run he wishes he had gone with the HPI.

Having said that $200 is cheap and probably all I would pay for those KM clones if i was to buy one... but I have an HPI so that ain't gonna happen. Figure on replacing radio, servos, engine and diff at least as they die

Thanks monaroman thats exactly what i am looking for...there is no way i can but a hpi baja ss dad said it is to expensive(even though i earn my own money)...so im going to have to start with a clone, anyway i am going to replace it with axle extenders,cy26cc,ds meaty dogbones,ss diffs, and get spare arm...anything else you guys think?

Find yourself a good 2nd hand original Baja, you'll spend less than the clone, IMO. A mate of mine is selling his..........that is if he hasn't sold it yet. Second hand Baja's sells like hot cakes........lol

tell dad buying a clone would be like buying a beat up jalopy car what ill nickle/dime you to death in the first yr.

say it would be like going to the gas station and telling them to fill the oil and check the gas.

I dissagree....I own both the KM and a HPI SS....I 've run 4-5 tanks of gas through my KM and have had no breakage of parts....but then I don't run into still objects :).

All 1/5 vehicles have their weak spots even the Baja 5b has its problems (which alot of owners don't like to admit)...... depending on what type of driver you are, that has a bearing on your parts longevity

Usually buying a second hand vehicle. is like buying someones problems...they ran the buggy, it had a problem or 2, now they want to sell it

Yup, I have taken apart many used large scales, even my own, and find items broken, cracked, or stripped and never knew it.
I cannot figure why the used RTR's are going for what they are used since you can buy a new one for just a bit more.
My neighbor could of sold his used in working order and it had many problems once it was tore down...

Hey I just joined the site, great to hear you can actually talk about clones here!!!
I appreciated your honesty, many are afraid to admit that a clone is actually a good vehicle and cave to the peer pressure of the HPI nazi's. I was banned from the Baja forums for even bringing up the word clone. Clones are all I run now. There was a time years ago when they were inferior, but they have made many changes and upgrades since then and have a very solid vehicle.
