Well boys, this is the first post hopefully in a long line of updates me and Jack will be adding.
Last night I decided to do my new shell. The idea was to copy the format that the 'Gulf Racing' team use, although I could not match the colours correctly. I was toying with the idea of getting the shell done profesionally but then I thought that after the first few corners it would look ruined, so I bought on line some Tamiya rattle tins.
PS-7 Orange
PS-49 Sky Blue anodized aluminium
PS-5 Black
After cleaning the inside I went about cutting out the rear window and both side windows with the Dremmel (what did we do before dremmels?). Followed this up with another clean.
Took the Tamiya masking film and masked the windscreen and the stripe and added the window sticker with the team name on the roof.
The Sky blue paint is very fluid and runs far too easily so with the wifes hair dryer in hand I managed to stop the runs within seconds
, or so I thought
After 3/4 coats of Blue I removed some of the film and laid a few coats of Orange, what I did not do was let it dry enough (although at the time I thought I had).
Now Tamiya advise backing the blue with the black paint so I put 3/4 coats of black on. Let it go tacky and removed the outer protective film only to discover a few problems.
As the orange was not totally dry it has run with the black and created a 5 'O' clock shadow that actually gives it a look I quite like.
The black backing has made the blue a few shades darker than I was hoping for
.
The shell is not as good a quality as the one that came with my car when new, it has a mottled effect that can be seen close up.
What I really like is the Logo iin Blade 2 font.
Here's the pics, sorry not mounted on car as it's in bits.

Hope you like it.
