bore plating what happens if you have dull areas in places does it mean its dead or can it still be used untill power drops off as ive got a 23cc zenoah looks ok runs well throws my all alloy bug around ok theres a couple of dull areas in the bore its not to bad but only going to get worse piston was like brand new as is the ring loads of compresion left revs quick fast and high just not sure how long its going to stay this way due to plating can they run without plating can plating be redone need it to last couple more months till i can get a new head kit of some sort

If you can scratch the dull area's with a sharp pointy thingy and not leave any marks.....you will be ok.

If it scratches like alloy then you have a weld waiting to happen..

As far as replating......errr.....NO.

their is dull, then their is Shot.

many times in a Zen cuz of teh better plating, the dull area is often oil residue build up. you may be able to re shine it up using a green scotch bright scrubby pad.

on a cy, dull usually indicates lost cylinder plating and the topends gone to poop.

if you can clean it up and get it fairly shined up, your fine, if it stays dull and looks like aluminum thats set outside for a couple years, its on its way out. the dull areas that are shot will wear a new ring away in a couple tanks or less.
