Hi, i appear to have brake fade on my Fg Stadium truck, it has front FG cable brakes with competion linings i think (bought off ebay) with standard rear transmission brake.

I changed out the servo ( futaba 3305) for an ace rc 1015 with 15kg of torque, brakes are fine at the start in a run but fade quite badly after a few hard stops, i notice the radio plate is flexing a lot.

Any idea how to improve this?

Thanks

you can fit a couple of alloy posts to the radio tray to stop some of the flex

or how ive done both my fg's a carbon radio tray or a alloy one also on my fg bug i ran a layshaft hydro brake this stops very well its also got front cables

another thing ive done to the bug is fit larger discs from any hydro setup and space them away from the caliper @2-4mm its a cheap easy mod that improves the cables no end

again this ones down to money fit hydros can be had on ebay but £££££

Yes i noticed that hydros are not cheap for good quality ones, i think i will have a dig about in my odds and ends and see if i have some suitable posts to stop the flexing in the radio plate, its moves a LOT !! like it made from sliced cheese.

also i am having trouble get the same braking out of the front wheels there is a big imbalance when cold but less so when hot , i there any special setup required as i have tried most things?

They are FG cable brakes on FG alloy knuckles.

check out b&q our one down here has a good range of alloy rod in loads of sizes ideal for making posts

as for seting up the cables its all about trial and error mate with these big scales little adjustments make a big difference

i adjust the bolts that hold the pads on so there moving free and not binding then adjust the cables also try finding some stronger springs pen ones work but you have to shorten them a little

Thanks for the replys, i will try these in the week and report back later with how i get on.

My friend has a lathe in his garage so i can make some if i don't have anthing suitable, then try re-adjusting them and fitting some better return springs.

Hi I have added another fixed post on the radio plate as suggested, that helps with the flex of the radio plate a lot... not had chance to try it yet as it bloody snowing again !! see the pic (poor i know) below, its difficult to see it and is slightly too long so pushes the radio plate up a little, but i think it will work ok.

The main thing is to provide a 'stable platform' for the servo.
The extra post should do just that.
You could remove and apply full brakes and see how much the radio plate flexes, then replace and see how much it's changed.

I went to the point of having a Savox 500oz in servo fitted and started bending the caliper wires, so had to replace with the stronger alloy posts.

I've a tuned engine - Trevor Simpson 2-bolt 28.5, tuned FG exhaust - in an 18Kg FG MT - does a good job now, but I have to reset the pads roughly after every hour of hard braking.

Al.
