Hi, i broke a drive axle today and ive researched the prices for the part, but i cant figure out how to remove the broken one. It doesn't seem to be attached to the driveline like im familiar with. If you know how to remove it and reinstall a new one, PLEASE tell me, i miss driving it already. This is a link to what i could find, so if you know of any place better to purchase, let me know. Also, there are 2 pics of the damage.

You need to remove all the screws on the underside of the rear section chassis.

Gear cover, spur gear, brake assembly and top plate need to be removed.
Lower arms also need to be removed.

The entire gearbox will wiggle out (yes its tight) and once out there are counter sunk screws that need to be removed to separate the two halfs.

Pull out the diff and remove the 4 screws holding that together (yes you will need a new black rubber seal for re-assembly).

Remove the silver pan head screw on the side of the case (the broken side).

Remove the screw in the internal end of the broken drive cup so the silver pin can slide and be pushed through the exposed hole in the diff case from removing the silver pan head.

HPI suggest 1000wt diff oil and that's great for bashing, if you do any track work you might want to run 30wt silicon shock oil as the car will turn much better and tighter, if you do a lot of sand dune driving maybe look at 2000wt oil.

Hope that helps.

Just got the diff open, that pan head screw is out and the screw concentric to the broken drive cup is out, but I can't seem to get this silver pin out of where the pan head screw goes. Any suggestions? Also, I have bought the hpi 86488 and they are substantially longer than the stock, but I thought these were the stock ones, so what are the 86488 ones used for?

86488 is the outdrive hub shafts,do you have a center head grub/set screw?if you look in the diff in the center of the drive cup shaft, might be one holding the shaft in place, if not then you need to persuade it out with a flat screw driver or heavy pick
