Well, got my four HPI VVC/HD shocks installed today. Went for a joy ride...hit a jump a little crooked and cartwheeled about three complete flips. Went to turn my truck back over and saw something was wrong. Apparently one on the flips landed on the top of the right reat wheel.

Pulled the kable loose from the crimped end, and popped the bottom of the shock right off the end of the piston. Gonna send a pic to KillerRC.com. Hopefully can get a new set of kables and gonna see if I can get a new shock shaft out of the deal too... I know it was a big crash, but that's the reason I put the kables on, to keep the shocks protected...

BTW, still thinking up ways to get 8 shocks on one of these beasts...

Get a set of the nylon strap based limiters. they are alot stronger :)

Did you check to see if the a-arm suffered any damaged, like bends?

Obeast44 is right, I have the homemade nylon limiters too and have

cartwheeled a few times now without any problems. They hold up

great. I wanted to give those cables a try but looking at what

happened to you maybe I'll stick to nylon's... :D

You know a shock is only as strong as its weakest link.

Most of you choose to keep using those junk baja SS shock shafts thinking the 6 mm jumbo shaft is bulletproof. well it doesn't bend but the shock end is pressed on so you are only as strong as the plastic shock end. Another brilliant HPI engineering improvement.

Get the RTR HPI baja front shock shaft upgrade kit from Phatdad RC and be done with it. It can even use Rampage shock ends.

Thats my .02

I was thinking the same thing Sprint... Was looking for replacment ends and found the Phatdads with alloy ends. Think the extra $ is definately worth it.

The arm looks fine, checked to make sure the cup wasn't damaged either. All looks ok except for the shock end and the cable. Guess the cable and shock broke the fall (pun definately intended)!

Well, chalk it up to another thing that I broke, but will be stronger when I fix it... What doesn't kill it makes it stronger, eh?

Checked for damage yesterday night. Took all 4 wheels off and removed the other three killer kables. One of the front cables was about 3/8 inch longer than the rest, so looks like it was about to fail. The cable itself seems strong as hell, but the crimp on the end isn't too stout.

All the arms are OK, the diff cups were all fine. Looks like all is well structurally.

Just sent an email to Himoto about the dual shock arms, hopefully they can get me some, otherwise I'll just have to MacGuyver something up :)

Why not upgrade the stock shocks to 5mm? The shaft is not molded into the end eyelet so if you break and eyelet just get a new one.

I totally ripped through two nylon straps doubled over on the ends. Of course there was considerable pressure at the time of failure:D
