Cleaning metal parts with brake cleaner

What do you guys use to clean the metal parts of the car after getting them wet, to prevent rusting? I'm talking about dogbones, drive cups and so on. I used to do it with WD-40 for my other RCs but I hate that it leaves that oily coating, it then gatters tons of dust.


I saw someone on another forum mention brake cleaner. What do you think, anyone tried that? I'm worried that it might affect bearings because this stuff is designed to leave no grease whatsoever.
 
I just lightly spray the cars with simple green leaned out approx 50% with water, Or go to the dollar store and get this cleaner called awsome- however its spelled- use this stuff 100% let it soak-- take the garden hose to the car. Then fire up the air compressor and blow every single allen bolt head- everything. Then start the car on a stand, run the motor just high enough to engage the clutch. Shut it off- set the car in the sun. This is a simi arid desert here in n.e. oregon, i can get away doing this with no flash rust issues. not certan if you are talking about already disassembled parts--- What works good for parts dissambled-- remington gun cleaner & lube in a aersol can-- i get it @ wally world.
 
I'm talking about the assembled car. Also, I'm in Europe so I never heard of simple green or the other products you mentioned as they're not available here.
 
oh- i really have no idea other than using a strong house hold cleaner for heavly soiled clothing- cleaning things around the home, bet europe has the same thing as the simple green - just with another name. as for the gun cleaner for the stateside members-- its called remington- rem oil. green & yellow aersol can. this seems to dissolve crusted parts better than w-d 40, has teflon also. best i have found yet for cleaning- lubing dirt bike throttle & clutch cables.
 
So basically, to protect against rust you're just blowing it with the air compressor and then letting it in the sun.
 
I normally don't chime in like I know what I'm talking about because there's just to many ways to skin any cat but in this case I've got to add my 2 cents. after you clean your truck using whatever cleaning fluid of your choice and using the sun or my way compressed air to dry it , lightly cote it with remoil. there are quite a few products on the market like remoil my first and favorite was triflon, than that same company came out with triflow, they both worked well but became hard to find. the only way I hit on remoil was a friend of mine was cleaning his guns and the smell was the same. I spent several years fishing on the gulf of mexico for a living and believe me the only thing I ever found that didn't take almost daily care to keep my guns from rusting was the two things mentioned above,triflow and triflon but remoil seems like the same stuff so what I'm really trying to say is no matter where your are in the world if you can find out what their made of or smell any of them for comparison whatever this stuff is it works great you can't beat it.
 
I have never heard of Rem Oil, gonna have to try it out. After a few good runs I uss carb n choke cleaner. But first I always hit the whole truck with the air compressor. With the carb n choke cleaner, I Mainly sprayed around the engine, on the brake pads, in the clutch housing as well. try to keep away from bearings. I also use some stuff I find at wally world called Purple Power, its a degreaser similiar to Simple Green, about half the price. Spray that stuff on a rag and wipe everything down. I kinda got away from using stuff like WD40, although there is this stuff called WD40 Specialist, designed for rust prevention. Spray that on a rag and wipe down whatever you want, it mostly evaporates, leaving a thin coating that wont collect alot of dirt. As far as keeping your cv's and dogbones lubbed, You can also buy chain lube, in the bike section at wally world. Its a liquid, dry lube. Hope this helps.

There is nothing wrong with keeping your rc nice and clean, any simple maintenance like this is better than nothing.
 
I bought some kind of wd at lowes a while back that wasn't regular wd. whatever it was it smelled and worked just like rem oil,triflow,or triflon. I've actually found all 3 of those lubricants at lowes before but it's hit and miss from day to day as to what they may have and that depends on if you can find someone to tell you where they're keeping it this week. I swear they leave you on your own so that you can find something else you don't really need and buy it.
