Took my truck out it's 15 degrees here and it wont run for nothing. Barely pulls on bottum end the top end seems strong after about 600 700 hundred feet of it bogging down. Any tips what the setting should be at for the cold?
 
hello marvo

i reckon you got yourself a fuel deprived engine there man,i would richen your low speed needle by 1/4 turn and run it for a bit and see how it goes,do this when your engine is hot and preferably after a run when cylinder is reasonably dry. then start to lean in 1/8th incremints untill you find your sweet spot on the motors running.

you see the higher and colder the altitude/weather the thinner the air is,thinner air means the need to compensate with more fuel to provite adiquate running.

most of the time the carb is set rich from the factory, so you may wind up leaning it out after the first tank or so, but your altitude and weather conditions may have an effect on that. your factory setting should be around 1.50 for your high and 1.25 for your low.(thats turned out from the closed position. screw all the way in) keep a note as to what they are so you can alway go pack and start over. start with the low speed needle first. just get it to take of smooth and then adjust your high speed. to check to see if its lean or rich just pull the plug. if the plug is white or grey, its too lean. dark with oily deposits is rich. you want the plug to be a nice clean chocalate color. screwing in is lean and out is rich. DO SMALL ADJUSTMENTS. its very sensitive. if you start your rig at room tempature, how does it run? smooth or still choppy?
 
Are you running gas from this winter or did you buy fuel in the summer and running that? There is a difference in summer and winter gas. But the above mentioned tips for carb tuning are spot on.

richen it up like Dc2 said...cold air is denser so has more oxygen so you need more fuel, 15f is pretty cold, I know when its 15c below other Canadian largescalers, in the real cold parts, are about 2 1/2 turns out on the H screw which is twice that of factory.
