Well, I had broke my first diff cup last weekend. So I ordered a pair from Python (50031). The diff cup is the OLD version 1 that takes the smaller pin. #$@$#@!

Any suggestions for getting the sturdier pin in there? Will I be able to drill that hole out or am I stuck with the diff cup with the small pin?

Beware ordering these from Python, you may end up with the V1 diff cups.

i put all mine on a drill press and opened them up(V1 diff cups). works fine for me, but im sure you would have rathered the V2 cups
Cool. I thought that the v2 ones were stronger but if they are all the same with just a smaller hole, I'm drilling all of them out and using them!

Just drilled one out. I tempered them then discovered the hole was too small. Pin fits great now and I have the gearbox back together. I know the quick way of taking the gearboxes apart now, Moo! Thanks for the tip on that!

Yep, once you temper the shaft, it takes some of the hardness out of the metal. And yes, if you are carful, you can drill them. I did. It works just fine. Temper then drill. That is the key. Have not broken a shaft since doing it this way and I have an ESP 30.5cc with Lauterbacher clutch set to a high engage RPM. It is quite quick off the line with tons and torque and drive cups are doing fine so far. (keeping fingers crossed)

AHHHH you just screwed yourself now. Better go knock on some good wood there. :D

So true, that is muphy's law. I will probably break at least 2 cups next time out. I have 4 spares ready to go because I broke so many before finding out about the tempering process. I was told to heat up the shaft right around the holes cherry hot, then put them in a ceramic mug and cover...let cool very slow. Works.....so far. knock knock.
