I have been out of RC for a while and my fleet of FG has been sitting on a shelf. I'm looking to get back into 1/5th and wondering if an e conversion is worth it given the heft of the FG adversely affecting run time etc... Have folks done the conversion and been happy with it? Is it worth it or better just to move on to dedicated e 1/5th's like the Losi xle?

There are systems (batteries, ESC's, motors) out there that can handle the 12-18 kg FG MT's without too many problems.
For me, making them electric LOSES a lot of character - and can cost a lot of money.

It depends on personal circumstances and preferences - finance, location, etc.

It is certainly possible. Like Atom said, it is going to be steep and the cars lose some character. ESC and battery tech is now at a place where it is more than just a curiosity for 5th scale and here in Europe plenty of touring car drivers are making the switch. Just find a good motor mount for your model.

Here is some examples from my own pusher;

Most of their Touring car range can be can be bought as E models or converted.
