Just received my new XT and I'm basically still in the break-in stage. The first idle tank rank without a hitch and the second tank was running fine until the engine stalled. Now when I start the engine it starts right up but as soon as I apply the throttle, the engine shuts off. Can anyone help me with a solution to this?

Check gas cap vent.
Agreed, if your having trouble during the break in stage its probably just vapor lock in your gas tank. Unscrew the gas cap and if you hear a hissing sound, theres your problem.

If that doesn't work than the mixture screws on the carb will probably need some tuning.

i know you are still in the break in stage but try removing your air filter and cleaning it just in case its gummed up and starving your engine of air. usually only happens in dusty or snowy conditions

it seems like a gas cap vent problem though
Was having the same problem with my XB and it was the gas cap vent,I just did the vent modification.I never had this problem with my MT but I did the the mod on it also anyway.

Vent Modification?

Could you further explain this vent modification process?

Okay,What you need is a piece of fuel hose,a hose fitting like the type used on the nitro exhaust and an inline fuel filter. What I did was drill a hole in the cap a little smaller than the threads on the hose fitting, screw it into the cap, then attach hose and inline filter and secured it to the rollcage . Here is a photo of it finished.

would it solve the problem by just buying a new cap?
I don't think you can buy for just the gas cap alone, you have to buy the whole fuel tank. Unlike hpi that there are after market gas caps available. Even if let's say you can buy a gas cap it's not a garantee that it will solve the problem. Most of us are doing the gas cap vent modification, because your problem is usually one of the problem that we encouter before.

You would eventually get the same problem again because the new cap has the same hole so it's better to do the fuel vent mod.Since I did the mod,I have not had any problems.

you will still have the same problem it is cheaper to mod the gas cap plus you don't have the dirt getting in the tank or gas spilling out of the tank

Yes, it works the same but the problem is because of the small hole size, it clogs up pretty fast especially in dusty conditions.Remember it sucks air through that hole also pulling in fine particles which eventually builds up and blocks the hole and when this happens the fuel doesn't flow freely. It's just like putting one hole in a can of juice and trying to pour it out,it just trickles out until you put another hole then it flows nicely.

I had the same problem. I unscrewed the gas cap and re-installed it and it runs perfect.

Venting looks like this you can find the parts on ebay.
