Hello Rampagers,

So I ordered some upgrades for my newly ordered XT, most importantly, a Jetpro rear exit exhaust.

I want to wrap this bad boy so it doesn't melt everything around it. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I heard that wrapping an exhaust can be bad for it. Any comments on this? Has anyone here wrapped their exhaust and had any issues?

And anything else that's close as well... or my fingers if I get careless. :p

The way I see, why bother shielding the body.. and the tank... and this.. and that... when I can wrap the exhaust itself and protect everything else in one shot!

If the wrap gets wet it'll trap the water against the pipe and possibly cause some rust issues.

I'm also hoping I can seal it, because I heard that those wraps get brittle and then just flake off quite easily. I'll be hitting up the auto parts store to see what options I have.

summitracing.com sells all different kinds of the stuff from low price to high price they have a silicone coating that you can spray on the exhaust wrap to keep it from rotting it also protects from snow, rain, salt and crap like that. A 12 oz. can is $6.95 drag racers hae been using exhaust wrap for years it keeps the exhaust temp inside the exhaust, that in turn helps scavange exhaust gasses which makes for better performance.

If I decide not to wrap the exhaust itself, what needs to be shielded besides the body? Again, it's a Jetpro rear exit exhaust on a Rampage XT. Thanks!

I have an XT and jetpro and I shielded the body with heatshield. It looks like a foil but with cloth in them. Same stuff you find in sportsbike. They used it in plastic fairings to prevent melting those fairings. I got this idea coz' I have a Honda CBR1000. I asked around to see where I can buy them. eBay's got them. Search for "Heatshield" that's the brand name. It worked for my XT and didn't have to cover that beautiful chrome. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I'll get some heat shield on the body. I was kindof worried about the other parts, but it sounds like just the body is in danger of melting.

I wish I would have known to protect the body. During break-in on my 2nd tank the heat from the stock exhaust burnt a beautiful hole in my new XB. I was pissed and am still pissed because I just did it yesterday. LMAO
