Hi there I purchased an fg baja a couple of years ago now with the zenoah 26cc engine, the problem I have at the moment is that the engine won't run, it will some times fire up but as soon as any throttle is applied it dies, I have tried re setting the carb, it had a new stroker and crank the other year as it had scored the inside of the head and wouldn't start. After this I ran it through about 2 tanks of fuel and it died, I don't know what to do now, does anyone know what could be the cause of this or someone somewhere that can fix it for me? I have been back to modelsport in Otley where I purchased it but they don't have the time of day for you. I live near York if anyone can help me.
Thanks Rich

Hi

Surprised to hear about Modelsport. is this the Modelsport uk mail order Model shop. My experience as a mail order customer with this place has been pretty much faultless with good customer service. As for your engine I know it might sound daft but is the choke being operated in the correct direction. Almost sounds like on choke/perhaps running rich. Can you take back to factory settings and start from there. If the engine has been opened up check for tightness on all fixings(compression). Had to deal with many compression issues with nitros in the past.

Somebody else on here had a bad after sales experience with Modelsport.

It could be the gap not set right on the magneto if its had a rebuild and not run right since. Would be worth resetting. Im not sure on the best way to do it but the guys on here will talk you through it.

I'll add one more. I had bought a brand new headkit and after install could not get my rc started no how. I put a new 23cc headkit on same carb started second pull, old head started even with bad compression, put the 28.5 on and nada.. I sent it back to ddm to check and they sent me a replacement set. to add, I even told them I bought the kit privately, and I was willing to pay just to know or fix this up, and they had the head for a few weeks, said it's cool. on the house... just to keep a customer happy... that is good service, going above and beyond.

so if all the other stuff doesn't work, it might even be the head kit..

so for argument's sake, try yet another spark plug.. had new ones not work before.
set carb to factory specs...
make sure fuel is getting in (is plug wet?)
make sure you haven't blocked the pulse port in carb gasket... that's for pumping fuel in
check magneto gap with a business card (where the magnets meet.. done that wrong myself before)
make sure fuel lines aren't plugged or kinked
breather hole on gas cap being plugged usually allows it to run then get rich and flood
is the coil still good? I recently had a nightmare with a new engine and had a bad coil
head gasket still good or replaced?
piston was put in the proper way? yup put one in backards myself before too
plug wire and cap still good?

+1 to pipes advice above, got through all the tests in one sitting, if it doesn't work after all that you want to contact whoever you got your head kit from.

Hi there yes this is the same company, oh they are great to deal with over the phone, I rang up about the problem and they said yeah no problem bring it in and we will have a look at it for you and if can't fix it there and then will keep it in until fixed, drove around 50 miles to get there only for them to turn round and say they don't have time to look at it, well thanks guys. As for the choke this is being operated properly. I will have to strip the engine down again to check all the parts.
thanks for your reply.
