Uh oh?
I bought these some time ago and never upgraded until now. Here is the problem.:helpsmilie:
Here is what I bought:

After installing and just about to mount, I found the large mount to be 1-2mm larger then the stock one. Could someone that has the mounts do some measuring for me and see if I'm over looking something or if I have a bad one? Here are some photos of what I am talking about and the measurements of stock vs the alloy. Hellya you ever seen this before?

The posts are not bent.

Its tight against the motor:

But really off??

Any help will be welcome!:helpsmilie:

you should be able to add a couple of washer to the rear brace

I never have had this problem with their Motor mounts.

If all else fails write hobbytech direct....they are always very helpfull
On the universe they have a rep.... username chevymande

I'm thinking I will need to shim the small mount up 1 mm higher to level out and make my own rear brace to accommodate the extra space.
Thanks. I got these from you but just now opened them up to install them - Took me long enough huh?

UPDATE:

Well I am impressed with Hobytech's customer service.:) It did not take much time for them to look into this situation and give me a few ideas. They have insured that the future mounts are ok. Like I said these mounts where purchased and have been sitting for some time now so I figured the problem had been fixed by now. Here are the emails for those of you to feel confident in the upgrade purchase from them:

I bought a small and large motor mount for my Firehammer and the large mount is larger then stock by 1mm which is making it tough to make fit. Could you please see the photos and item here: https://www.largescaleforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2295
And tell me if I have a defective one or what I should do? I can take more measurements if needed.
Thank you,
XXXXXX

Dear Mr. XXXXXX,

the 62mm are not normal. Sorry for this mistake, we will inform the manufacturer to check all engine mounts, but here in the shop all are OK. If it is possible for you to machine the alloy part, then you can take 1mm off from the bottom.
This is the best way, because then you will have not to use some washers on the other side and on the top of the mount.
If you are not able to machine it, please inform me. Then I will send you a good one with your next order.

Best regards

My Solution

Here is what I did to make them work:

I installed a 1mm aluminum shim under the small mount.

The tough one was making a new support. I used a thicker piece of aluminum stock and traced the old support on it and cut it out with a band saw. I drilled out the holes to match and ground down where the the taller large mount would hit and that took up the extra room rather then using washers.

I'm quite happy the way all the upgrades are coming along.

That looks awesome!

I had to re-tap the screw hole on my large engine mount where that support connects. The screw would never grip so I went one mm larger.

Very nice work BTB. Looks awesome !!! It's like it came from the factory. I'm guessing I'll probably have to do the same ? Why not go with the washers under the large mount like Hellya suggested ? I'm just asking because that was my first thought (the washers), But I'm not sure if the large mount would pivot on the washers or not ? Any opinions on that BTB ? That is a great mod/ install you did. Thumbs up buddy :rock-on:

BTB, Never mind my previous question,(I was stuck on stupid), I though you meant that the large mount was too short. I was looking at the pic the wrong way. NOW, i understand. Sorry !

or you could have shimmed the diff mounts aswell and would have given you a little more clearance under the diff aswell ? another option ?
I thought of that 2 but I opted to make my own support. If that had not worked that was my 2nd idea.:)

So you have to order more parts from them so they can send you a replacement part and don't have to cover postage? Bit rude I reckon.

Well I did buy these over a year ago. I'm thinking I could of made a deal with them to get them to cover shipping that was there 1st email back.:)

I think the best thing to do, is put one on backorder. They don't charge your card until it comes in.

I also think they get so few in that they just fill the backorders first and then they put whatever is remaining out there for the rest of us.

Been there did that! Had in on order since January and finally gave up this month and did the Fg route. Much happier but cost more. I can't imagine they are under filling the order that badly its been on back order since last year?:) Guess the kids can't make them fast enough.:clown:
