this engine was working then stopped and the flywheel nut has come loose and rattles a bit on the crank.
I need to pull the engine apart to see what else is wrong with it and removing the nut requires holding at the clutch shoes has anyone just made a tool to bolt up at the two holes at the clutch shoes to stop it from turning?

You should be able to hold the flywheel by hand and hit it with the impact gun ( just make sure it is going the right direction before you pull the trigger) , that nut is pretty small so not super tight.
Be careful with a piston stopper you don't punch a hole in the top of the piston. You might be safer with the old rope trick instead.

thanks mate for the tip i will try that, and the motor is probably tired anyway as the top off the piston is black like it's had some use and i will pull it a part just because i haven't taken one a part yet.
i got a spare engine that looks to be larger in cc's and the top off the piston looks nearly new and i have run it and it's nearly ready to go i just have to drop it back in the chassis.

Do not hold the output side and try to remove the flywheel nut. All twisting motion you are putting through the crank and may cause a twisted crank. It does happen.

Use pullcord string, take the spark plug out and feed the pull cord string down into the cylinder. You may need to feed a bit into the cylinder foe the piston to stop but you won't damage the piston.

do you use a piston stopper?

that's like using a zip tie with nitro engines, it works.
