I just put a 23 Zen head and piston kit on my Cy crankcase and now it will not start. Before doing the swap the Cy ran fine, weak but it ran. The only difference about rhe new setup is the sparkplug. The plug off of the original setup was much bigger so I got one from an existing motor. Any ideas? Thanks

+1 on what pipeous said.

For the magneto gap, a trick i've learned is the gap should be as wide as the thickness of a business card. Take a business card and put it in there when bolting it in place and that will give you the perfect gap.. Make sure you use locktite as that is a part you do not want moving around. It's happened to me and it wasn't a pretty picture..

Check to make sure you have the right plug and that it is working. Set it on the side of the head with it out of the jug and see if there is spark. If so, take a small amount of fuel and put it int he hole and see if it starts. It may be a fuel issue. If no, then check with the videos below and see if you missed a step.

+2 Pipeous.Even though you might have a spark it might just not be enough to fire the mill.
Jackobyte had the same problem. He came to our house complaining that his engine wouldn't fire.We checked the plug and it had a good spark,we tried everything .In the end I put a new plug in and it fired first pull.Try that.
If not and you've removed the head ,it will be what Pipe said, piston in backwards .

The mag IS spaced card thin as it was prior. The plug is from a motor that was no longer running, so that is possible. I made a point of marking on the crankcase which was the exhaust side to make sure the piston was not in backwards. If all else fail I can pull everything apart, the motor is on a motor stand not installed in the car.

I almost pulled my f-in arm off trying to start my a few months back. Tried everything following advice on here. Turned out the kill switch was a bit sticky & had stuck in slightly hence no start. Simple fix but frustrating. Might be worth a look if you have tried everything else??

BINGO...it was the sparkplug. On my way home from work I stopped by a Hobby shop and bought a sparkplug, installed and one pull and it fired right up. Thank you everybody for the advise and education.

My next question, when I got my Baja the instructions said to drive conservatively for the first tank and allout after that. Will that be the same for this motor as well?

All out from the start! One of the best engines I have. If I throttle it from go it will wheelie! so the break in process works fine.

i got a blister once trying to start a brand new (not rebuilt) motor. tried everything then i noticed that the slide barrel in the carb looked closed. from the factory the carb came set with the idle turned down soo low that it wouldn't start. as soon as i turned it in alittle fired right up. this was a different type of motor, it was a 50cc for a different project.
