Long story short time
I am new to the whole gas RC thing but i am the type of RC'r who explores and i am usually a hundreds of yards and usually a mile from the truck before i look up. RC's bring me to a whole other world / mindset and that is why i love them. When i crawl with my TRX4 i of course carry extra batteries. What is in my Backpack is a whole other thread.
Anyway, i try things out in the garage before i go into the field. Filling up my Kraken TT or Vesla with gas when the body is on is a true pain in the nads. I am new so it could just be me but I have fairly big claws and 2 trips away form needing glasses so i fumble around trying to twist off the gas cap like a 16yo on prom night. Not so hard really. The gas cap, not the prom date. I do have body quick releases on both but if i don't have to take the body off just to fill it up then even better.
I have a 1 gallon RotoPax that i have from my dirt bike atv hobby and i will use that for the main fills at the truck. That is easy with the extension i have that replaces the cap.
I knew i would be far enough away from the truck that i would need a top off and a refill to drive back to the truck. I looked to my longer range dirt bike setup. On my 4 strokes range is no big deal but my 2T i always carry extra fuel for me or my riding buddies. I carry a Primus 1.5L on my backpack and i had an extra one lying around so even though i am normally a few sammiches shy of a picnic i ate one and went to work.
I took an old water bottle cap which has the same size and thread pitch as Primus / MSR, put a pipe thread in the cap and ran some Ethanol safe fuel line as i live in Commifornia to one of those Dubro Fuel Filter for Nitro cars. It is in my backpack so i don't worry about dirt and dust. If i need to put it on the outside i will attach it as normal but put the hose in bag or ?? to keep it clean.
