Hi guys I'm new to the forum! I have a quick question. I jumped my baja,
and all of a sudden the motor would rev up but it wouldn't go. Then gas would leak from the back. When I went to kill the motor it sounded like it was a grinding sound... It was running like a champ. Everything is stock on it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Steven.

The first thing is to check how everything fits, and if all screws/bolts are there and holding properly.
The petrol leak is more dangerous - check for holed tubing, removed/pulled off, or perhaps a cross-threaded cap on the tank.
Check if the carb is still firmly bolted to the engine - might be loose.
The grinding is probably that the engine is loose - broken or loose bolt has mis-aligned it against the other drive gears.

Good luck and let us know what you find.
Al.

Thanks Al, I will check all of that. What do you mean by cross threaded cap on the tank? After about five minutes of the baja being off, I took off the gas cap and the gas bubble up'd and shot out of the gas tank. I will work on it today. I appreciate your help.

Yeah I have a plastic one, gonna upgrade soon. al I found out the fuel line has been punctured rubbing against the clutch bell, also the engine is running fine, it's just the spur gear, and clutch bell won't move when I give it gas, I think that's the name of them lol!! It's the big gear at the bottom of the back of the car. I love my motor it's a zenoah g260, it still seems to be running good, fires right up. Gears just aren't moving, I'm a newbie at this so I am learning. Thanks for your help!

Al, I took my baja in to hobbytown they said to check the clutch, how do I know if it's bad, is that something that can come loose? If its bad what clutch should I get? I have zenoah g260 motor. Also it's been 95 degrees here with high humidity, should I avoid running my baja in these temps! Thanks Al-Steven

Hi Steven,
Revving, but not going anywhere is what you originally said.
The basic clutches are really quite good.
If it's new, I doubt its the clutch; used, its quite possible.
Its a centrifugal clutch, the reverse of drum brakes, with the spinning motion of the engine flinging out the friction pads onto the clutch bell.
I doubt the mounting will be loose, but the pads can wear down, or even 'delaminate' - break off the shoe.
This is unusual, but possible.
Other things to check are simply which parts spin and which don't when you rev it.
If the engine's off, can you roll it easily? Can you see the clutch bell spin as you roll it with little resistance other than the weight of the truck?
YES? Good.
When you fire it up, then rev it, does the clutch bell turn with the engine?
YES? Good. NO? Clutch problem.

If the bell spins with the engine, at which point do things stop turning?
It could be a couple of loose grub screws, or even missing - these generally tighten onto 'flats' on shafts, to hold gear wheels, or driven wheels in place.
Happy hunting!!
Al.

Thanks Al! The gears move when I roll it, just not when I give it gas. Thanks for your help, I did notice I'm missing 1 grub screw to hold the clutch bell on the shaft. I'm gonna buy a clutch rebuild kit! You've been so helpful!! Oh quick question, can I use my clutch off my hpi baja motor for my zenoah until i order that kit, it's a fuelie 26. Thanks again!!

A loose wheel square is common for causing loss of drive on fg's so maybe worth taking the wheels off and checking they are good.

Thanks, I will check that out as well! You mean the square block the wheels got on right? I'm new to this stuff sorry about all the questions

Wheel blocks were good. Changed my fuel lines out, tomorrow gonna check out the clutch. With the way it's spinning it looks like some thing is loose in there

Thanks for the tip about the spring, I will check it out later today to see if the spring is broke, if it is broke can I use a spring from my hpi baja's clutch? Also how do I get this clutch and gear plate off?? I took out the three bolts I can't remove the gears or anything, Getting frustrated cause my wife won't let me work on the damn thing for more than an hour... LOL. Also how do I upload vids from my iPhone.. Thanks guys your all so helpful!

Top tip........work on it on the dining table then you have to finish what you have started otherwise there is no way you can move it and risk losing all of those small screws & clips. If she wont let you finish the job then she doesn't get her dining table back :D

Thanks dwarfy!! The problem was I was missing those screws!! I used the m5x5, those screws!! The baja is back in action!! Thanks guys!! That was funny about the dinner table stuff dwarfy!
