Home made gaskets for carbs etc?? Anyone ever done this??

Has anyone ever bought generic gasket material from an autoparts store and just made their own gaskets for the carb? I need a new gasket and I don't want to wait and order one on-line. I assume this would be ok.

Any comments?

I made my gaskets for the exhaust and engine out of 0.020" copper. I stack them up as needed.

For the carb I skip the Gaskets and use Universal Blue from Hylomar. Its good stuff and so far no leaks at all.
