How to adjust an adjustable diff for FG MT?

I just bought an adjustable diff (8485/1) for my FG Monster but now I`m a bit unsure how to adjust it. I know that it is the two opposite screws (see arrow in picture) in the middle of the diff but which one is the adjusting screw and how do you do (practically) when you adjust it?

The two screws centre the shaft that carries the thrust bearing, if you tighten the screws one way the locking effect will increase and vice versa. Usually I adjust so it feels how I want it, then tighten one of the screws up to prevent it from changing.

Yes, I know that I should unscrew one and tighten one. But which screw is which? Should I tighten the one that sits on the top of the diff? (that will press the axel down on the thrust bearing)

i know its off topic , but just watchout when running your MT in or near stones as that diff case is very soft and will tear easy [ i know i smashed aa hole in mine with a rock]
 
what is that diff protector on the bottom of the chassis as i want a alloy diff but can only find these, and don't want to use diff raisers
 
heres something i knocked up for someone i sold one of these diffs to .. hope it helps.

The adjustable diff ..

There are 2 screws (grubs really) on either side. One of them adjusts the 'lock' the other is just to tighten the setting up so it does not change .. it is difficult to determine which screw is which.

Heres what I do ..

1. Loosen both screws up (with an allen key) and the diff should now be unlocked/free/open however you want to say it.
2. Tighten one screw and see if it makes a difference to the locking 'feel'

If it does then thats the adjusting screw and adjust accordingly and then tighten the other screw so the setting does not change.

If it did not make much of a difference then loosen back up and try the other screw/grub.
