I've been thinking about getting the Baja slipper clutch, but I havn't heard anything from people using them yet. Who's using one of these, and how's it holding up?
 
If I am not mistaken, it has not been officially released yet. Kind of disappointing really. It was actually advertised on the website a month or so before the SC SS Kit, and today still not available.
 
From what I understand it is available. Most people don't carry it in stock, so you'll have to special order it. That's what some guys said on another site anyway. I have no idea if they know what they're talking about or not. I will probablly wind up getting one of these, but I'll wait untill others start talking about how much they like theirs first. I race, and this could make racing on a slick track much easier.

They have been out for a while now.....
as soon as they hit the shelves they where all sold!
 
There have been lots of questions about these on US sites, but no answers. Since this site has a large amount of people from all over the world, I thought I'd try to get us some answers here. From what I understand, most of them were sold in Europe, so I was hoping there would be a few people here who could tell us if these work well or if they're a POS. Thanks for any info, Charlie.
 
it has not been released yet bud, and in all honesty i no longer care about the slipper anymore, after all of my troubles i don't trust hpi quality anymore when it comes to the vehicles, stock, or factory hopup parts.

It allows for some GIVE in the drivetrain. On the spur gear side of things. It will absorb some of the shock from jumping and landing ON POWER and will decrease the stress on the diff, dogbones, drive cups and internal gears. Since it is highly adjustable it will also take some of the shock out of high HP motors by allowing a smoother engagment of the primary clutch to the drivetrain.
At least thats what it is supposed to do.

Evidently it is supposed to be well made and function very good. In reality since it's only a slipper it's engagement will be constant unless under excessive force.
What i am curious about is what will sand do to it. I have a 62cc 5T I want to test one in and see how it does. Although the gearing would be all wrong I should be able to beat the hell out of it and see what happens lol
 
Would be interesting on what motors they did the testing. If it was a stock set up I will love to see what upgraded motors do to it.
I'm not sure I have any issues with my Baja set ups to go spend more money on another maintenance issue?:rolleyes:

Yeah alot of people have this question. Me included. None the less I will get one and see what happens when they are available. If they work as they are supposed too then changing out a couple clutch pads is alot cheaper than replacing drive cups dogbones and diff parts.
But that has yet to be proven. Will have to see what happens.
 
I would love to see if it can pay for itself in unbroken/less worn parts.
There was a reason they kept with it on the smaller models so I guess time will tell.:)
 
According to Scott at HPI customer service(USA) this product has been released and is on back order. He said there should be some more available for purchase in a few weeks. Tower says it should be available later this month, I'll call Dave's here in a few minutes when they open up the phone lines.

OK, the girl at DDM was very nice, but was unable to find any helpfull info other than the fact that they havn't sold one yet.

so i am curious, does anyone have an opinion on the slipper since its been out for a few months now?? i had them on my nitro cars. and see them as very useful. but the 5th scale world i don't know about... i run mostly on the beach so i am gathering i would not have that big a need for one.. but curious still.... thanks in advance....
 
In the world of bike racing a slipper clutch allows a rider to change down the gearbox and release the clutch eg going from 5th to 2nd without the back wheel locking thus the clutch plates slip, so called a slipper clutch. so how these can be called a slipper clutch i don't know??????? unless they release as soon as the power is off.
Most ones for all models are centrifugal types.

There are some that tried them and posted on HBF. DDM has them in stock. My only concern is what gear sizes are available. I am sure some one will be making different size gears sooner or later.
