What am I looking for? I looked at them, and there is lots to choose from, but I honestly don't know what I need, it will be for welding aluminum mainly, 3/8 rod and 1/8 sheet aluminum. Does the grade of aluminum matter?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sprint would be the guy to ask about this. I've just recently jumped into flux core and MIG so I don't know squat.

Also, here's a nice chart of aluminum alloys that could be of some use:

You can see 6061 and 7075 and where they lie on the Rockwell scale. Also, check out the aluminum main page from McMaster-Carr. Start checking links on each alloy. The details will show tensile strength and various other properties.

THe rod I would weld is 7075, and the plate aluminum I weld would be 2025?or is it 2024? Aircraft grade aluminum. I know the tig's I have looked at are around 1700 to 2500 US. So yes, they are expensive-------it is only money though. lol

A Econotig from Miller will do aluminum be about 1500 ready to go here in US . There next model up from that is well worth the upgrade at about $2200 US figure your price about 15% more up there north of the border.

I like the Miller the best over lincoln and Hobart , but all three are good. don't ESAB are also good stay away from Century and Harbor freight type ones on welders.
