Probably your clutch98cruiser said:I want to go fast more upstairs, some one told me to swap the 35 with 25 a & b gearing, is that going to do any damage or should I go with 30 and 25
I run 35/25 and my clutch is fine, it produces a good top speed, not acceleration. I also swapped to 25/35 and it has more acceleration off the line but no top end.RampageHopUps said:MCD gears are available in 33/27 as well.
are you running mt or tt tires?prostock said:I run 35/25 and my clutch is fine, it produces a good top speed, not acceleration. I also swapped to 25/35 and it has more acceleration off the line but no top end.
I think 25/35 would hurt the motor more than 35/25; just my 2-cents...
Rob,
Do you have these gears?
its possible but they will still wear right out too. its like trying to take off in 3rd gear in a car. i run 30/30 mcd gears in my stock mt pro and it is plenty fast. its close to my tmaxxs top speed 40-45chevy said:Pistol pete's right I even smoked the clutch with 31 29 gears going up a small hill, is it possible to get a hd cluch like an elco and run 35, 25 gearing???
your engine must be making alot more rpm than a stocker because i run those gears in my mt and don't come close to 60 with it topped out. im closer to 40-45. that makes me want to put a ported top end on my truckhamster huey said:I had a MT with MT tires on it that some one swapped the main gears on and all that stock motor could do was smoke the clutch!
On my TT I took my stock 29,31 and swapped them 31,29 for more speed. I have a ported, built, 27.2 on buggy bow ties. It goes 43mph! Much larger MT tires with 31,29 would be good for about 60mph if you motor/clutch could handle it, but I don't think thats possible. The MT tires are at least 133% larger without accounting for expansion at speed!
i have no problem getting it to top out with the stock 30cc it really doesn't lag either. i was climbing 4-5 foot snow hills with it today from a dead stop to the top no problem with the 29/31/25/25. its a lot of fun in the snow it goes over anything. i posted a long time ago about building a 60 mph tt. i wanted to know what it would take. sounds like a good challenge for your p2whamster huey said:It prob makes more RPM but not much more. Im getting 43mph with buggy tires and swapped 29,31. Adding large diameter MT tires keeping the same swapped 29,31 would go way way faster seeing how the tires are around 133% larger w/o even accounting for tire expansion.
The prob is MT tires and high speed gearing is very hard on the clutch and engine. Those high speed gears would take some serious power and a good clutch to get the engine up to top RPM. I wonder if a ported 28.5 could do it? I bet a 30.5 could but could it w/o breaking the drivetrain?
Your making me want to turn my next project into top speed! I bet the best bet would be buggy tires and some high speed gears................
