hi,
offcial saying this nitro engine have 3.75hp output,if put it on a baja5t(after some work on new rear chassis ect..)would it be great cos the engine weight is more more less than the gas engine.

Would be no point as the baja is really heavy so you won't
be getting anywhere in a hurry!

Hpi made a Savage 5t but it was $hit! So they stopped making
them...

You can try but the is no point tbh.

Enough said above to be honest.
3.75HP with a BIG ???
Much better with heavier, but much more torquey 2-stroke - more reliable as well - less servicing, lower fuel costs .... don't see the point really.

If you could fit 2 of them, you might be competitive, but again, more hassle than it's worth!!

the 5.9 is claimed to be 3.75hp, however nitro engines makers calculate horsepower, they don't dyno them like 1/5 scale engines. there are dynos for small nitro engines, and they shows quite a bit lower power than claimed. i have seen dyno numbers for the 5.9, its actually around 1.3hp. the current monster truck king, the picco .28 put out 1.8hp on the same dyno.

regardless, a small nitro engine puts out such little power it wont even get a true large scale moving. the savage 5t was a joke, too big a truck for that engine. in comparison, the 5.9 is 5.9cc, our large scales start at 23cc. larger motor = more torque

i thought that, i had an os .30 vg engine in a hyper 7, that was supposidly 3.5 hp, at the time i had just brought my marder with a 23cc engine and put a jepro tuned pipe on it,that was said to be around 3.5 hp!!!!
now my .30 os engine had the same power as the zenoah 23cc with pipe????? no way man!!! never.

HP is HP, a nitro motor with 3 HP would have the same HP as a cy with 3HP . the problem is not many people know what HP is . HP is work over time . think of it this way , you have a little guy with a spoon that can move real fast= (nitro engine 30,000 RPM) and a big slow guy with shovel= (cy engine10,000 RPM)if they both move the same amount of sand the same distance in the same amount of time . (the amount of work over time is the same ) they have the same HP .

and yes you are correct this rating means very little when it comes to application of a motor ,you need to see the torque rating for that.that is why it is useless to buy a motor just because it has more HP .A higher HP engine may in fact have less usable torque all through the RPM range but have more HP at the top RPM.

can you imagine if we matched boxers by HP you could have a 100LB guy matched with a 250LB guy just because they could do the same amount of work over time. LOL .Anyone with kids knows the average 5 year old kid has more HP then there parent .LOL.

agreed not all HP ratings are reliable gas or nitro ,but seeing as they are almost meaningless anyway when used by themselves whats the difference .

I posted this for the ones having trouble understanding how a lawn mower and a .28 glow engine could have the same HP,understanding is all about knowing the fundamentals . Once you have them you have it licked Mate.

hope this helps some of my R/C brothers , cheers Roger
