Look at my sexy body!

I've always hated this thing, I had to do something with it...



I could just throw it away... ...No, I can't do that.

I could stomp on it and tell it how bad it sucks... ...No, I've already done that..

I could rag on it and make fun of how stupid it looks... ...No, I've already done that too...


What can I do?

I have been thinking about putting a pipe on the buggy and I didn't want to hack that body all apart...



I've got it, I'll throw a nice coat of paint on it and make it look nice, then I wouldn't feel like a tool when I run it around! ...Yeah, That's what I'll do!

So I masked off the windows. And scuffed it with a Scotchbright pad so the paint will stick.


I washed it off afterward and dried it thoroughly, I didn't figure you wanted to see that. So I didn't take any pics of that.

I Grabbed my trusty can of black and started shooting...

Looked pretty good until...

Oh poop what is that?




Damn fish-eyes!

See my finger in the paint!?! It looked pretty decent at first.


This was on the 4th coat when all this started to happen!


poop now what do I do? I could put 100 stickers all over it?... No That'll look like poop...

Repaint it?... ...Nope, they will just come back!

Sand it all back off and start over... ..Hell No, I was about to throw this thing in the trash...

I got it!

did you use panel wipe after you washed it??? as some soaps have sylicone in which paint doesn't like mate :lol:

Here's a taste...

The lighting isn't very good and my camera is cheap so it won't grab colors and show them clearly. Every good color pic I have is blurry.








It's only a third of the way done...

I betcha can't see those fish eyes now...

I think once you've done the windows and a few decals it will look cool. Maybe a couple of straight lines along the side in black and white..

Here it is after a little bit of purple and 15 coats of clear (5 cans of 340g)

I will get a shot of it after the clear has dried and the body is mounted.

Can't really tell in the pics, but the clear is a bit rough still. I wet sanded it with 1500 grit twice, but you can still see the "Affect" showing up on the surface of the clear.

This was my first attempt at shooting clear enamel... poop is hard as hell to work with compared to Lacquer.

I wish the purple was more pronounced. I covered it with candy blue, but the I ran out half way through, so I had to redo the whole thing!

Looks good dude. ya I have tried a few clears and laquer is by far the easiest. enamel is so easy to get runs with. I have to try that finish sometime on a section of an rc. almost as easy as painting lightning speaking of which... that stupid scooter is going into a bike show monday... I can't believe that hack job is actually being considered worthy haha

Ha Ha that's too funny!

I can't get this clear to lay flat... You can see the "Lifts" from the operation under the clear, even though I sprayed 15 coats...

Part of the problem was, I rushed it. I resprayed the "hood" and I didn't wait to clear it. The paint is lacquer and the clear is enamel... As long as they are dry they are ok to cover each other, but if the paint is wet they eat each other!

I think it looks fine for what it is... I am just going to cut half of it out anyway so I can throw my JetPro on there.

I just tried a new laquer today with my airgun and man this stuff is impressive. the last 2 coats I did today I sprayed super thick and not a single run. I went and made about 8 passes over the wing on the vw at wide open and shooting at 45 psi. it puddled but didn't run. did the scooter with it. I always sprayed the vw first to test in case it did run. don't mind screwing my own stuff up hehe. dupli color color shop clear coat 3. man this stuff has really fast drying reducer in the can and dries almost as soon as it hits it seems. it even says for autos on it. impressive.

I can't see any defect man. I am not a fan of purple myself but it suits what you did there. cool finish. I can really see doing that in a cutaway section on a paint job.
