I just installed a CY F270 engine in my HPI 5T and did the typical break in.
It has a ton more power on the top end than the original engine but the bottom end is pretty slugish. I'm pretty well versed on tuning the jets so I'm satisfied this is all she has. I'm not much for hop ups and I really like to stick with oem everything but in this case... Do you think a tuned pipe will get the bottom end I need.

A good tuned pipe will make a night and day difference on any engine!!!!!!!!!! Engines do not reach full potential till at least a gallon.

Problem with pipes there is no perfect pipe for both top and low end. If they made one like on enduro go karts with a cut out there could be. LOL Many times pipes can be personal preference.

When I got my CPI pipes I quite trying pipes as it is well suited for my driving style. CPI makes two pipes standard and big bore. Your motor is right on the border line from going from standard to big bore. Do you live in the US? If so I recommend calling Mike at CPI or John or Troy at large scale to see which one would be best for your engine.

When I got my standard CPI I was running the stock 26 and it really woke it up. When I put in the engine I built a race ported 30.5 I put the CPI big bore on. Another thing about the CPI pipes is they are VERY well protected!!!!!!!!!!! Check out these links.

They all so come in chrome.

a good pipe will give good bottom end i was running a hpi ss pipe and i used to think it was great untill i got a k,m dominator pipe its like night and day tho a little to loud, lol

ive ran this engine quite a bit and a rear dom really goes well with it. i know doms arent much for reving in some situations but with this engine it has great lowend and still revs well. i think you would like it well.

it is personal preference but you can get an idea from what members experiences are with pipes. only thing is different engines perform different with the same pipe, so info from someone with exp. with pipe and same engine will benefit you the most.

if you are running a can right now you are missing most of the power available from that engine, so a pipe will be the single best thing you could do for it. you will be blown away by the difference in your engine after putting a pipe on it. and pretty much any pipe will make it perform better than the can.

They say the new flowsystem pipe makes power from bottom to top, when fitted to a stock baja it will accelerate from a stop to their top speed in half the time as it would equipped with a factory can, but for $298 that would be expected

the guy that owns/designed (drawing a blank on his name now) the flowsystem pipe said it was designed as a track pipe. a linear feel to the power band.

I have heard good things about the flowsystem pipes. Problem I had with side pipes is they caught hell more so racing then bashing. One of the many reasons I like the CPI as it is VERY well protected. But there are many good pipes out there.

i don't know why you don't have much bottom end on yours but mine is is great. i have the 5b with stock gears and hostle mx tires and if i get any grip she pulls the front end up. most of the time it just rips the grass to pieces. i don't run it lean and my fuel mixture is 25:1 like normal and i run the ss pipe. i know a few people with this motor and they say the same thing as me about the power. i bought mine from brad at 5thscalecanada and he runs the same one with the same resolts. maybe it's just your plug or a bit of dirt in your low end jet.

I think the bottom end I'm getting is normal for this engine as stock I guess what I'm looking for is more snap out of a tight corner heading for a ramp with only a 6 foot run kind of thing. I have a 5B and a Firehammer that will snap out of the same corner and clear the jump and the 5T just seems to lug for that split second needed and it will hardly make it to the landing.
I ordered a CPI pipe and I'll give it a try.
Stupid question... you do tune the carb the same way with a tuned pipe right?

yes, tuning is the same method. the cpi is good but your still gonna have that lag. the dom was your best bet for the low to mid snap you were looking for.

Well your right. The CPI is awesome but my engine still has the low end lag. I'm going to order a Dom and see what it will do. That CPI made a world of difference. Wow I never new you could get so much power just from adding a pipe.

have you put taller gearing on your 5t? i just can't see why it has such a lag. i haven't heard anyone saying that before. not to sound like a dope but you are talking about the 4 bolt head right?

The rear DOM does not have much if any more low end then the CPI. Are you running the CPI standard or big bore? All so the CPI pipe does SO much better mid and high end. Here is a dyno sheet but the engine is not stalk but will give you an idea. I agree with many dyno is not bottom line! I would think the engine you are running has a WT 668 carb and many talk about lag with it and switch to a WT 990. You can pick up the WT 990 for as little as $35 from Gizemomotors. I have a new WT990 but have not tired it yet.
