I thought I saw this posted somewhere else, but can't seem to find it now.

I'm a Savage owner and thought I would give the Km a try! Gunna be here Friday! Any key parts I should drop in my toolbox before heading out to the pitts this wknd?

I would buy a few ngk plugs, some 1 1/4 metal conduit to cut some rings to go around the wheel hexes (before you go), and a good set of hex wrenches. Will you be jumping the buggy? Which KM did you buy?

I just ordered 2 extra spark plugs (I ride motocross so I know all about that!).

I will likely be running the baja in some gravel pitts and around where we ride, so quite often jumping it.

Oh, and I ordered the KSRC-002.[FONT=Times New Roman, Times, serif][/FONT]
 
That's the same buggy I have. One thing that most people will recommend is to check the diff lube. You probably will want to change the lube anyways because its really thin. 30k diff lube will give you a limited slip action. It would also be a good idea to buy some RPM a-arms for backup.

Make sure you get yourself a failsafe!!! Factory servos are far from impressive but will get you through a few runs.
 
Mine will be here tomorrow. I suppose its a pain to get the rear diff out to check the fluid? I was reading that even on the HPI baja to check the rear diff before you run it. That alot are dry :(
 
yah its a pain to break it down, thats why i really suggest you have the alloy split dif housing, once its broke down reinstal using the new alloy case, then next time, you only have to remove rear bumper brace and a couple other things, to access the hatch and pull the diff, versus almost a complete rip down of rear to get it out. and the housing stays put too, you just remove a rearward cover, on caseing.

That said, can anyone explain to me what the purpose of the conduit mod is? I searched and found a couple posts referring to it but I'm still not quite getting the grasp. Is this a KM only problem?
 
hmmm, you referring to the tire ring mod? some use a emt conduit to make a ring for the hubs, if this is what you are talking about, basicly grab a 1-1/4" emt conduit piece and use a cut off saw or band saw and trim ring pieces of about 1/4" thick, slip them over the wheel hex hub on the rim from the back side and glue in place, real simple real cheap

I believe I saw somewhere on these forums someone that was selling them for a decent price already cut and stuff...anyone know who was doing that?

I'm not in a rush, just got many other mods I'm already working on :)
 
its not that hard to do it yourself . just get the closest inside diameter conduit pipe that you can that fits over the inner wheel hubs. use a hacksaw if thats all you can get hold of, and cut the rings off pipe. file the burrs off and get the epoxy and glue them on.

there is one other thing i think that may work for this too. its a hose clamp, not the ones that have the screw on it, but the kind thats a ring, with spots on each side that you take pliers and crimp down, if you can find those, you can place over the inner hubs, and crimp each side down . i cannot recall the exact name of those crimp rings, but i have used them before on other things.

So I decided to do this while at work, got 1-1/4" EMT and cut it, got home to find out it's certainly not big enough for the wheels that came with my KM.

Does KM have different wheels now? The inside diameter of the EMT needs to be quite a bit larger than 1-1/4"!
 
get a tape measure and measure across the km inner hubs, see how big they are for sure, then just buy the closet you can in conduit. cant recall if that post on this fix, said the conduit rings were a snug fit or slightly loose, but i think they were snug, and they used like a block of wood or hammer handle, to tap them down over hubs, with epoxy layed over area to make sure they stayed on

did you de-burr it? i use this all the time on my km wheels, maybe the brand of emt conduit? but i have tried 3 different brands and they all worked, had to cut some at work and some at home so i grab what ever 1-1/4" conduit i found and it works every time it should actually be just a bit to big not to small
