As the title says I'm new to RC, and have a brand new KM Baja 5B. Its the KSRC-002B Wild Grey from KingMotorRC.

I've read and been told that the first thing I need to do is go through everything and make sure all bolts are tight, and that the diff is full. About to order some 3K diff fluid, and will start tearing into and checking out everything this weekend. I would go to 10K fluid everyone seems to like, but want to get used to it in mostly stock form then work up. This buggy comes with the outerwears (KM brand) on the pull start and the filter. Bought shock outerwears to go with it. Plan to add the mesh, and maybe outerwear, to the case vents since I'm going to be halfway there with the diff.

Right now I'm thinking I also need to get a kill switch, but I don't know which one, and will probably go ahead and add shock limit straps to make them last as long as possible. Is there anything else I should do/add while going through it? Want to save most modding and upgrading for as things wear out and break. If I'm missing anything or should think about adding anything please let me know.

Agreed on the Killer RC switch...if you plan on using the stock TX/RX it will work to kill it on the third channel as well as it's other functions...ie. low voltage kill, glitch or out of range kill, lights, buzzer, etc.
I went ahead (just because I didn't really like the shock set up) and replaced the stock fork type oil in the shocks with Lucas silicone oil...(Team Associated Lucas 35 front 10 rear). It's all in what you like and what type of terrain you're going to be running in.
I also went with the Lucas 1K silicone in the diff to lock it up, but it sounds like you're going to stay with the stock set up for a bit.
I made some boot protectors out of some 3mm plastic to save from having to replace them again...second run I had one shred (PM me if you want me to send you the template). Watch the clearance on your sway bar ends cutting into your boots. Try to find some nice tacky automotive grease to fill in the cups and boots...I use the Lucas Red N Tacky...(buddies wife works for Lucas so I get a lot of comp stuff...that and it's just good stuff!)
Past Loctite for all your screws and bolts into metal (which I'm sure you know about), the only other thing I would advise is what I was told when I got it...don't baby it...run it how you want to run it right after the break in and you'll see where your weak spots are...replace as needed...Hope you have fun and stick with it!

For about the first month I'll just be bashing it in the yard. The next few weekends will be occupied by wrenching on the full scale truck. Once I get used to it I'll start taking it to the track, and getting an Idea of what I want to do on set-up and fluids.

Kill switch was definitely at the top of the list. Saw the Killer RC Super Bee, but don't care about lights, buzzer, etc. Was hoping they had a simpler version that just did the remote kill, glitch kill, and runaway/out of range kill. I think the Killer Bee would have been perfect, but seems it's been phased out.

Thanks for the heads up on the cups and boots. I have something that aught to do the job.
