Hi!

The pinion gear wears out pretty quickly om my FG MT. I am on my second already (been driving 7 gallons) Should it not last longer than this? I guess it is because it`s too far away from the big diffgear. How big should the gap between this gears be?

Are you still using the plastic pinion gear? A steel one would last much longer, meshing wise you can use 1-2 sheets of paper between the teeth to get the right gap. :)

Oh......I don`t mean that gear. I mean the small gear next to the differential. Sorry:blush:

I have never replaced mine? That is the spurshaft/transfer gear. That is a 14T I believe. The duratrax 14T should work for replacement if looking for a cheaper alternative. Its not right that you need to replace that gear at all. I would check that all the screws in the rear axle mount, alloy gear support plate and motor mounts are tight. The two bolts on the side of the motor that connect the side plates to the motor should be enough to hold the motor from falling forward but, it can happen that the motor keeps slipping forward without the alloy motor mount upgrades. Its just real hard to keep those dang screws tight in the plastic ones. Did you replace the diff gear when you replaced the spurshaft/tranfer gear? Maybe the big diff gear is wearing the spurshaft/transfer gear? If not maybe it just was not meshed right. Take a business card and put it between the gears, pull the motor toward the diff and squish the card between the two. Make sure the gears are as flat against each other and not running sideways. Tighten the motor mounts and mark the motor mount spot on the chassis with a scratch to make sure if it moves you can easily see it has happened.

Thanks! I know that the plastic engine mounts is not that good but they are far cheaper then the aluminium ones. Do you really think it is worth buying the alu ones? Can you tight the screws harder in the alu ones then in the plastic ones?

They are worth it when you can. I ran for over a year without them. I just made sure to check each session the screws in all plastic items for back out and also the metal support from motor to rear diff.
The one benefit the Monster models have over the others are the tow screws on the sides, one in the pull start and one in the gear plate. These will hold the motor more stable then the buggies.
