Guys,

with all this talk of obr 30.5 motors and the awesome demon 2spd:D...how are the ramps drive train going to handle it?..at the moment im saving for my rig so i cant speak from experiance but i do want to know what im letting myself in for.$$$$

If folks are breaking parts already like diff cups n all, what is next to go:eek:?

are the dog bones ganna handle it etc, as the toobz for the baja don't fit is any body like Rampage hopups or 7075 going to make some for us all.

Im just throwing this out there and would like to hear your thoughts.

what about a poll on broken tranny parts so we can see what goes the most?

It doesn't seem from what iv read on here that the diffs are a problem on these trucks...

Cheers Turbo

ooops should have put this in drive train i guess

It kinda depends on what you do with your truck. If you like to bash the $h1+ out it, you can break a stocker. If ya drive it knowing it's limitations that 7hp OBR with a two speed can still be a lot of fun with out breaking a thing. We are seeing more companies popping up making cool hop-up for Redcat. If we can get someone to make some titanium dog bones, we would be in great shape. The cups and dog bones are really the only weekness. The cups are easily reinforced with some rings, which only leaves the dog bones. IMO not much of a problem:)

I plan on this set up in my MT. I am currently making some rings. I will replace all dog bones with some new ones when I install everything else, as mine show a little wear.

I agree I race mines often with little problems if you are a major basher then yes you look to replace more parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The more power especially is going to be a blessing for me and I am sure there will not need to be any upgrades on shafts or drive trains or anything els as they have held up great for me.

I was at the 1/5 scale track I made a vid at each weekend, i've broken 4 diff cups. I'm starting to get upset. I make sure to land off throttle. I Was beating out the OBR/30.5 ESP bajas with 4wd for about 10 laps, then bam each weekend.

I've broke one or another ever weekend. I'm ready to buy a welder just to make my own rings, or something. Maybe get the toobz and cut a spacer to wedge into the gap between the ID and the flat on the diff cup.

Rcdad i hear ya im not going to be too savage to mine.....OH DID I SAY MINE

YEHAW GOT ONE OF EBAY TODAY brand new unused but second hand....NOW IM IN THE CLUB.........

I now need the two speed...Boogie like your thinking unfortunatley we not all machinist's

but if your making im buying HAHA..

Seems like the drivetrain is like life...sometimes your lucky

Immenent failure (that names wicked btw) whats a baja!!!!hahahah

Cheers everyone

The cup tubes are easy enough to make. They sell sleeve bearing on www.mcmaster.com that slide right on. The OD of the diff cup is 20mm. Go on Mcmaster and under Spacers and Standoffs you can search for Sleeves with a ID of 20mm.

Also, 20mm = .7874". There is a 4130 chromoly tubing which has a ID of .777. It's a 7/8" OD X .777" ID x .049" wall tube. You should be able to hammer a piece right on the cup. If all else fails just take a dremel sanding drum and touch up the inside of the tube. It should go right on with a few minutes worth of work.

Demon is that what you use on your rc's? I could find some tube like that a bit closer to home i guess..is there any need for a groove for the pin.thanks for the details.....

Anyone know what these are? These are the same diff cubs, but $10 more.

They are in the XT manual as a hop up, $10.00 more than the stock.

The cup sleeves i made for mine are are 7075 aluminum (thank you avation department) and i under sized the id of the sleeve pit the diff cup in the freeze heated the sleeve and droped it on :)u bang snug as a bug lol

How under size can the ID of the ring be to fit on the 20mm cup. Would a 19mm aluminum ring fit that was heated or would it be to small? I've had a quick look around and can find 19mm but no 20mm tube.

I never busted a cup yet. I did that to a buddy's TT back in the day since he busted a few and it fixed the problem. Also, we did not make any grooves. If your dogbone pins are not centered you will feel them bind on the sleeve slightly. After awhile it'll be smooth.

If there not super tight, will locktite keep them in place? I also thought about a couple tacks with the welder would work:confused:

The sleeves on my cups are welded. I did have a slight binding issue with the dog bone pins, and I fixed that by filing the ends of the pin a little at a time until the binding went away.

Well thanks for the ideas, i will leave em stock for now and see how i get on....then when breakage happens i will buy new bits and make em tough

I put a Dogpile racing wild child 29.5 engine in my Blackout (aka rampage mt) now it seems I am plagued with a problem in "D" gear area the shaft has vibrated out ,gear has chewed, crown gear has been eaten away. all have had a turn at breaking but not at once but separately..!! I have just had a lock nut come off the shaft which sent the d gear half way across the field and the lock nut had loctite.. the DPR is powerful but this does take the biscuit.. love my hobby.. what would be handy is if some one made a one piece shaft that had the brake square on it and all that needed adding is the diff gear to eliminate at least some of the wobble...
