he guys, a friend of mine bought a ksrc-002 and the pull start keeps sliping. he brought it to me the first time it stared this, I tried a new washer and a few other things to no cure. he contacted the place he ordered the car from and they sent him a new pull start. after working fine a few times it started sliping also. I will say the 30.5 has a ton of compression but damn! has anyone incountered this and if so what was your remedy? I have not had this issue with either of my engines.

Try to tighten it a bit.If this fails,the pawl is worn to extent.
You can buy metal versions of these though DDM or other good stockists.

yes thanks, he has ordered a metal pawl. it just keeps bending the washer, the pawl itself seems fine. I even tried my shroud with my pull start and no go, yet mine works fine on my engine. it just seems the pawl is not coming out far enough to make good contact, is the pull starts the same for every engine no matter the cc?or do the 30.5's carry a diffrent pull start?

What are the driving conditions you are running it in? You will find the dirtier the conditions the more you will need to clean out the pull start. A pull start prefilter will dramatically lesson the cleaning.
Make sure when you reassemble it you do not tighten the screw too tight or it will also bind.
 
The KM pull starts seem to go that way, some might say they are the same as HPI but i beg to differ, mine lasted 2 outtings.
The Metal Pawl locks up a lot and the spring breaks on the bend.

DDM sell them and seem better than KM's. he puts them on deal of the day now and then @ $15 which is cheap as chips. You also need to get tention on the cord before you pull otherwise you snatch the Pawl and will round the edge off..Smooth action is the key.
 
hi guys with the pull start system i reckon should be thrown in the bin and Invest in the rotary start system, Much easier, Eliminates broken starter cords and any other problem that may occur.... just my opinion

i got a rotostart for mine but my 14.4V drill barely spins it fast enough, i put back on the new pullstart i got, the original lasted 2 tanks and bent the washer like above and nothing i did would make it last more than a few pulls before it did it again. the new pull start i got has the shroud or collar round the pawl and keeps it from cocking sideways bending the washer, so far its worked flawlessly. but i need to get me a faster rpm drill to put my rotostarter back on.

only one i see they show pic of underside i can tell it has the collar, yah its only one i found right now that shows the collar, theres a couple other black ones but they don't show underside, i suppose you can ask seller if it has it, your cost is gonna be round 23 up 29 depending on sellers, i got mine for 23 a few weeks ago.

yah forgot bout DDM, he has just bout everything too. just looked, only ones i seen DDM has are for 420 / 460 conversions, looks different than mine.
