Yea it’s come a long ways now days you can control everything with a laptop. Need more power add more boost lol and you’re able to have data about the entire run.

At some point in my life I do want something older with a carburetor just to learn. I grew up on fuel injection and don’t have a clue how to tune a carburetor besides decently ok on my RC car but that’s it 😂

Carbs are a pain, stick with efi. Much easier. No need to read plugs, fiddle with jets and or metering rods, accelerator pumps/ramps, floats secondaries. So much to mess with to get an engine running optimally on a carb. Efi is so much easier, especially with the kits that are out now. If I ever get around to rebuilding my 73 high boy, it's going full on modern efi and electronic ignition.

I agree, however, tuning a carb is like a lost art. There is a lot to peepee with but in the end carburetors are very sophisticated pieces of equipment

I don't think it's a lost art, at least not yet. Younger generations didn't have to deal with them everyday so they look at a carb as a complicated apparatus, but really they are quite simple in operation. Biggest challenge is knowing what to change and what result will come from that change. It's a tedious process.

I do a lot with carbs. dealing with the world of drag racing , a Holley carb is a very common choice in this application. Aftermarket or a souped up (for lack of a better term) has a lot going on with something that just comes out of the box. But yes , the basic concept has not changed , just more ways to adjust and modify the basic operation. They are even splitting them in half in order to move them on the intake manifold for better distribution between cylinders.

EFI is nothing short of amazing either. The adjustments are essentially limitless right down to individual cylinder tuning at the push of a button. It has come a long way. I started EFI tuning years ago on an old DOS based program and today's systems have come leaps and bounds since then.

Can't forget my favorite. Mechanical injection.
A pump , a couple valves and some nozzles , nothing to it.
Just add some alcohol and send it.
What can I say , I am a drag racer and this is as old school as it gets.
