Ive had reed and non reed motors on many thing but no small scale ones . I assume the results are the same , better bottom end torque more power smoother power band etc.
Anybody got HP dyno charts ?

You would think as much as our 1/5 scales are they would come with a reed engine, even my son's pocket bike used to rip with the 49cc reed in it.

They started life out as weed wacker engines. Ie, no reeds. Then came the aftermarket, reeds are a bit easier to make power from, as your not using the piston as the "intake valve". Gains arw then dependent on how the ports are configured. You also have to remember these small engines are limited in space, making major modifications a but more troubling. Just bolting on a reed case, your gains would be minimal without taking advantage of modified ports as well.

On many bike motors the reeds are inline with the head intake ports ( piston port) , some kart motors had bottom or side intake ports like these engines do , whats the reason for the side intake? , SPACE or ? I assume on dirt bikes it was because of location.
