I had an electric 5ive-T but actually converted it to gas. I have some concerns about running it in grass in the summer. Pretty much all the places I can run are grass. And they don’t cut the grass very short.

Last summer when my truck was electric, I would run in the grass and the grass clippings would literally fill the vehicle to the point of cutting off airflow to the motor and causing it to get quite hot.

Now I’ve got this nice Taylor 35 V2 and I don’t want to overheat it by choking it with grass. I would imagine the cooling system sucks the grass right in and it clogs up the cooling passage to the head. Was thinking about doing the mesh mod, but then the grass just clogs the mesh and you still don’t get any airflow.

Is there any solution? I see a lot of videos of people running their trucks in grass (the majority actually) so I’m wondering how everyone deals with this problem.

I had good luck with the outerwears kits, to cover up all the air intake areas on the Zenoah G320, my Losi had in it. Not sure if they are available for the Taylor but I can't imagine they aren't.

I guess running it rich never hurts. We run on some really hot days. You could get one of those little rechargeable turbo blowers or a compressor and stop periodically to blow it out, i have to do that with my baja alot. I usually carry a temp gun with us or get technical and use a radio and reciever with telemetry to monitor heat. I still use my old spektrums for that.

Where on the engine do you measure with the temp gun?

I am going to try the outerwears, even though the fabric they use seems pretty restrictive. I wonder if it causes an increase in temps due to a decrease in air flow. Perhaps not, considering a lot of people seem to use it with success.

Are you talking on the Air filter or on the pull start cover?

They keep the fine stuff out and the big stuff you just brush off.

My recent build with the Taylor Motor was loaded with field grass after that initial hard run that I posted! Took quite a while to clean it all out from everywhere with the air compressor. It was loaded into the head slots and everywhere else you can imagine...

Thanks. And what temps are you looking for?
Actually, I don't know as of yet, and I forgot to grab my gun when I ran it last time. I like to check the plug burn.
Too dark is oily rich, too whitish is too lean and not good... your looking for that golden brown color at optimum burn...
This was after my initial hard runs. A bit lean in my opinion... Need to richen up the Hi End needle just a bit for safety. Eventually want to see that golden brown burn.
