Try this mate, it worked with mine.
Loosen ALL ya engine mounting bolts off slightly. Then get one of them business cards that the shops send you (card not plastic), Find ya tight spot and place the card between pinion and spur and turn the spur till the card gets pulled in between the 2 gears. Give the engine a few taps in the right direction, then tighten the engine bolts again. SHOULD work :)

Hey Pablo, you say there's a tight spot. Do you reckon it's just the teeth in that part of the spur that aren't as deep as the rest, or is there a chance the whole spur's out - bad moulding - or even a bent shaft?

How loose is it once turned to the rest of the teeth, once you've set it up as Pete mentions?

I hope it's fine for you, but if it's too loose, you know yourself, it could wear / break quite quickly.

it was all fine till i fitted the new gearbox and top plate, but still running the original s,q pinion gear which is poor to say the least, 12 out of the 17 teeth are sharp, the other 5 are fatter, getting a hpi pinion tomorrow that should do the trick,
