ive only ever run mine with steel gears my mates used to run standard plastic spur and clutch gears but they never lasted long mines over 2 years old now some signs of ware but its never been covered and has run in all sorts of crap the only thing ive noticed on mine it does sound loud gearwise like a rally car gearbox but thats cool

One of the first upgrades. Plastic gears are cheap but I can not get a bash session out of one anymore.

I read somewhere that if the PINION is alloy, then keep the plastic spur - the alloy one will also work fine but NOT a steel spur with an alloy pinion.
If you've a steel pinion, then go for a steel spur.

A lot of the longevity is related to the gear meshing and how the motor is mounted / braced for the high impact jumps - this is where the teeth get trashed.

ive run a steel spur in my MT and baja (both FG) and one of the best upgrades, specially when jumping. never had a pinion strip even alloy one, it does wear after a while but still heaps cheaper and more reliable than running plastic spur.
